Job Summary

Pay Range: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour, depending on experience
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:30 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.
Location: 14035 Industrial Rd., Houston, TX 77015

Checkers note every component that's loaded or unloaded from vessel ships, barges, and terminal warehouses. Checkers will utilize paperwork, and often use handheld computerized scanners. They find, evaluate, record all cargo, and support other needs of the operation. If they find damages to containers or cargo, missing cargo, or loose cargo, they alert supervisors before discharging.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Receives cargo to be exported 
• Assists with loading export cargo to vessels 
• Receives import cargo from vessels 
• Utilizes paperwork and handheld devices to inventory cargo 
• Verifies paperwork to match cargo being received or exported is aligned with vessel and the port of discharge the cargo is designated for 
• Verifies cargo weights and dimensions to ensure that equipment being utilized for operations is within safe working capacity 
• Communicates via 2-way radio with drivers, clerks, warehouse personnel, security guards to coordinate logistics of cargo operations 
• Locates and verifies all cargo that is on the load list 
•Inspects and documents condition of cargo prior to any movement of cargo 
• Appropriately marks each piece of cargo 
• Compliance with the company safety plan, including utilization of required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times when in a work zone 
• Utilizes hand-eye coordination, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, dexterity, and precision during their daily work assignments 
• Performs other duties as assigned

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and be able to pass and/or obtain all reporting, testing, and certifications as required for this position and location.
