Job description

Much as Delta Air Lines helps passengers reach their destinations, the Cargo division serves companies in safe and efficient transport of a wide range of freight, including everything from mail to live animals and life-saving pharmaceuticals. Different departments in the Cargo division provide rate information, sell cargo space in the belly of Delta's passenger aircraft, track & trace freight and resolve customer problems. Additionally, they safely move cargo from a warehouse location to airport ramp areas and ensure proper delivery onto the appropriate aircraft. The Cargo Safety, Security, & Compliance team manages the system-wide global Cargo programs and Key Performance Indices (KPIs) involving, but not limited to, occupational and flight safety as well as regulatory compliance with OSHA, TSA, CBP, & FAA.

The Delta Cargo Safety, Security, & Compliance team is seeking two full-time positions based in Atlanta, GA.

  • The Co-Op will be required to complete three alternating semesters
  • All rotations must be completed before the student's graduation. Co-Op students for two of work and school.
  • Note: co-ops are not permitted to work part-time hours and should refrain from taking classes
  • (inclusive of online or in-person) and working as a co-op during the same semester.

The full-time work schedule for this role, while remaining actively enrolled in an approved

undergraduate curriculum, is as follows:

Spring 2027 (1st rotation)

Fall 2027 (2nd rotation)

Summer 2028 (3rd rotation)

Co-Ops must ensure that this alternating semester rotation schedule aligns with their university, curriculum, and/or academic advisor before applying.

Working as a Co-op does not guarantee a full-time opportunity upon graduation. This position is intended to provide educational and professional work experience.


Overall function and role: as part of the team directly responsible for all safety, security, and compliance efforts for Delta Cargo worldwide customers and employees, this individual will be supporting applicable initiatives in a fast-paced, dynamic, and rewarding environment.

Candidate must have a detail-oriented, adaptable, and collaborative approach & spirit. This will

include but not be limited to:

Support the Cargo Safety, Security, & Compliance team with ongoing development of

enhancements and improvements to cargo operations

Propose ideas for continuous improvement in processing and tracking effectiveness

Implementing project management skills and practices

Record results in databases and develop metrics to analyze performance

Measuring and analyzing current performance

Work across business units with various stakeholders in a professional setting

Provide process engineering and/or internal consulting services

Participate in data collection efforts for projects that impact cross-functional departments

Identify and implement improvements to existing processes to increase efficiency, productivity,

and performance

Recommend ideas for new ways to provide optimal (internal and external) customer service and

evaluate safety/compliance impact of proposed operational changes

The Co-Op will support the following teams:

Cargo Safety

The Cargo Safety team is responsible for the Cargo Safety Management System (SMS),

injury and damage investigations, occupational safety & health (OSHA) initiatives,

ergonomics, employee reporting programs (ASAP), emergency response, safety

recognition, and ground standards assurance.

Cargo Compliance (Regulatory)

o The Cargo Regulatory Compliance team ensures regulatory acquiescence by developing

policy and procedures for global cargo operations.  The team crafts risk-based auditing

standards to ensure Delta exceeds industry compliance norms.

Cargo Compliance (Security)

o The Cargo Security team ensures that our cargo acceptance and screening operations

maintain compliance with TSA (and other security) regulations across the system (US and

non-US). The team owns the Delta Cargo Security Manual (DCSM), supports and

maintains screener training programs & operational resources. The team performs

investigations and responds to compliance failures across the system.

Cargo Compliance (Products)

o The Cargo Product Compliance team is responsible for implementing a Quality

Management System (QMS) within pharmaceuticals & other specialty cargo handling

operations.

Cargo Policy & Procedure

o The Policy & Procedures team engages with internal and external stakeholders to ensure

Cargo policies & procedures are understandable and updated in compliance with required

industry regulations. The team supports implementation, revision, and adherence to these

policies & procedures.
