Job Summary
Lamar University is seeking a dependable and professional Campus Security Officer to support safety and security operations at Cardinal Village student housing. This part-time position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of residents, staff, and visitors through active patrols, monitoring, and incident response.
Essential Job Functions
What You'll Do - Position Responsibilities
  • Patrol Cardinal Village housing areas and monitor for safety concerns
  • Enforce university and housing regulations consistently and fairly
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, disturbances, or suspicious activity
  • Monitor building access and verify authorization for entry when required
  • Provide assistance to students, staff, and visitors with directions or safety escorts
  • Report hazards, safety violations, and incidents to supervisory staff
  • Prepare written reports of daily activity, incidents, and security concerns
  • Assist with crowd control, special events, and emergency procedures as directed
  • Perform other security-related duties as assigned

Minimum and Desired Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations
  • Dependable, punctual, and professional in conduct
  • Ability to patrol indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and respond physically to emergency situations
Preferred Qualifications
Prior security, law enforcement, or military experience
CPR, First Aid, or related safety training/certifications
Knowledge of campus safety practices or residential community security
