Winchester Cardiology and Vascular Medicine is seeking a Cardiac Device Technician to join our growing practice. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of cardiac rhythm management in a collaborative, patient-centered environment that values expertise, innovation, and professional growth.


As a Cardiac Device Technician at WCVM, you will play a vital role in supporting our electrophysiology and cardiology teams by managing pacemaker and automatic implantable cardiac defibrillator (AICD) technologies across multiple platforms. You will work closely with providers to ensure accurate device interpretation, timely clinical insights, and exceptional patient education – both in person and through remote monitoring solutions.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Warmly greet patients and escort them to examination rooms to ensure a welcoming and efficient experience.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of cardiac device technical processes and equipment for all major manufacturers, including St. Jude, Medtronic, Boston Scientific/Guidant, and Biotronik.
  • Interrogate and reprogram cardiac devices and generate detailed reports for provider review.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of patient assessments and clinical/technical management in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Provide device education and training to patients and caregivers.
  • Maintain familiarity with insurance guidelines and billing codes related to device services.
  • Oversee management of remote monitoring equipment and accessories.
  • Coordinate patient enrollment for home monitoring across all device platforms.
  • Manage urgent and non-urgent remote monitoring alerts promptly and effectively.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients and device representatives regarding device performance, inquiries, and complaints.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, co-workers, and patients.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment within the device clinic.
  • Participate in training initiatives to ensure efficient operation of the device clinic.
  • Adhere to OSHA and HIPAA regulations to maintain patient safety and confidentiality.
  • Perform additional tasks or services directed by the physician or administrator to support the team and ensure high-quality patient care.
  • This position may include travel to Winchester Cardiology outreach offices located in Martinsburg, WV, and Front Royal, VA, to provide cardiac device support.
  • Perform triage and wound checks (If Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse, although not required for the position), and applicable responsibilities, including:
  • Collaborating with physicians to determine appropriate care plans.
  • Assessing and managing post-device implant wounds, including staple/suture removal, dressing changes, hematoma management, and photo documentation in EMR.
  • Completing accurate wound documentation in Excel and Epic.
  • Scheduling follow-up appointments and recording vital signs.
  • Providing clinical direction within the nursing scope of practice.
  • Delivering patient education and instructions.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Compensation

  • $23.88 - $40.33 hourly

The compensation range for this position varies based on credentials. Candidates who are licensed RNs are eligible for a pay range of $32.01 - $38.50 hourly. Candidates with IBHRE Certification are eligible for a pay range of $33.61 - $40.33 hourly.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Practical Nurse (LPN) license or Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Virginia preferred but not required.
  • Specialized training or certification in cardiac device technology (e.g., IBHRE or equivalent) preferred.
  • BLS Certified or ability to obtain certification within three (3) months of hire.
  • ACLS Certified or ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a medical office, clinic, or other healthcare setting and one (1) year of experience with cardiac devices preferred.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in operating clinical tools such as EKG machines, sphygmomanometers, and other essential medical instruments.
  • Strong competency in cardiac rhythm analysis and electrogram (EGM) interpretation.
  • Knowledgeable in cardiac anatomy, physiology, and electrophysiology.
  • Knowledgeable in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Systems and Cardiac Remote Monitoring Platforms.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA guidelines with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and privacy of patient information.
