As a cardiac anesthesiologist, you study anesthesia medicines and how they affect the body’s organs. Your responsibilities are to administer anesthesia to a patient, monitor their vital signs, and maintain a safe level of anesthetics during heart surgery. You meet with each patient beforehand, asking them about medications and health problems to ensure the safety of their operation. Other duties include working with advanced technology to monitor and regulate organ systems, as well as monitoring postoperative progress. As a cardiac anesthesiologist, you primarily work during heart surgery.
