Monday through Friday 7am-4pm


Position Overview

The general purpose of a yard associate position is to assist the crush operator in a salvage yard. This involves removing any additional cores or commodities from vehicles before crushing and cleaning up the yard by collecting car parts and debris. The associate works on the ground alongside the loader and may occasionally operate it. The position requires being alert at all times while cleaning up around the yard.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  1. Yard Maintenance
  • Perform various tasks such as sweeping, shoveling, and cleaning up debris in the yard.
  • Ensure a clean working environment for fellow co-workers by maintaining clear pathways.
  • Clean up and appropriately sort car parts and debris resulting from vehicle crushing or movement within the yard.
  • Operate yard vehicles and heavy equipment to support the tasks of other team members.

2. Crush Assistance

  • Assist the crush operator in removing additional cores or commodities from vehicles before crushing.

3. Continuous Improvement

  • Actively contribute to the improvement of yard processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and safety.

4. Safety

  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures, remaining alert and aware of surroundings to ensure a safe working environment on the ground.ย 

5. Perform Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Forklift Certificate preferred.
  • Automotive experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.ย 
  • Must be able to work effectively alone or with others in a team environment.ย 
  • Must be able to work collaboratively across functions. Share expertise with others.
  • Must be a self-starter with the demonstrated ability to meet timelines and schedules related to essential functions described above.ย 
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.ย 

  • Must be able to ambulate throughout the facility and salvage yard for most of the workday.ย 
  • Must be able to continuously work outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.).ย 
  • Work in an area equipped with forklifts, chain hoists, and other tools as needed.ย 
  • Ability to use both hands regularly with enough dexterity to operate basic hand and power tools safely.ย 
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry objects and materials up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.ย 
  • Expected work hours are based on role and location.ย 
  • Ability to work occasional overtime as needed as determined by the employee's supervisor.ย ย
