Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Project Engineer is responsible for the effective management and execution of small to medium CapEx and OpEx projects at Pinto Valley Mine. Under direct supervision, this role supports projects from project justification and feasibility through engineering, procurement, construction, and completion while maintaining control of scope, cost, schedule, safety, and quality.
The position develops Project Charters, AFEs, Scope of Work documents, project forecasts, and safety plans; monitors project spending and progress; coordinates engineering and construction activities; and provides timely project reporting. The role requires the ability to understand the Project Management Process, read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, use SAP, review technical documents, conduct bid walks, evaluate bid submittals, facilitate meetings, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve HSEC, Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Cost objectives.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety & Compliance: Exemplify Capstone Copper Values and work in compliance with all MSHA safety guidelines and Pinto Valley Mine policies and procedures.
Project Development: Compile cost estimates and develop project justification, Project Charters, AFEs, Scope of Work documents, forecasts, and safety plans to obtain project approval and support successful project execution.
Engineering Coordination: Work with third-party service providers to develop engineering solutions from feasibility through detailed design for assigned projects.
Contractor Management: Perform bid walks with contractors, assist in analyzing bids, and provide recommendations for bid awards.
Project Management: Provide project management support for assigned capital projects by closely monitoring cost, schedule, scope, and project requirements.
Construction Oversight: Provide oversight of engineering and construction efforts. Interact with employees and contractors to ensure compliance with safety, engineering, construction, and environmental standards.
Quality Control: Monitor work to ensure adherence to approved designs, specifications, and project requirements. Provide direct and written feedback to contractors and support quality control and quality assurance activities.
Cost Control: Develop an understanding of contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and related agreements. Support budgeting and cost-control activities to complete projects within approved budgets.
Scheduling: Develop and maintain project schedules and closely track project progress in terms of scope, cost, and schedule for engineering and construction projects.
Project Reporting: Provide timely verbal and written updates on project status to the supervisor, stakeholders, and site leadership.
Budget Support: Support development of the annual budget and budget updates by obtaining budgetary proposals for projects in a timely manner.
Document Control: Maintain and expand the document control system, including organization of project documents, edit permissions, physical files, and document integrity.
Records Management: Maintain project-specific files and appropriate records of proposals, estimates, engineering design changes, drawing revisions, submittals, RFIs, invoices, and other related documentation.
Drawings & Documentation: Support modification of existing and new documents to current or as-built status using CAD and PDF editors. Support standardization of internal and external drawings and documentation.
Technical Support: Support internal and external personnel in locating project documentation and maintain accurate project records.
Workforce Compliance: Ensure employees and contractors are appropriately certified to perform assigned tasks and work.
Process Improvement: Research alternatives to existing facilities maintenance practices, materials, and execution methods to improve performance and reduce cost.
Additional Duties: Perform all other tasks and duties assigned or required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Required:
• High school diploma or GED.


Preferred:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related field.
• PMP Certification.
• Engineer in Training Certificate.
• PE License.

YEARS OF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Required:
• 3 years with Bachelor of Science in Engineering.


Alternatively:
• 5 years’ experience Planning or as a Planner.
• 5 years’ experience in Construction or Project Management role.
• 5 years’ experience in Supervisory role.

Preferred:
• Relevant Project Management experience in Mining or Heavy Construction industry.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES (KSA)
• Knowledge of codes, standards, etc.
• Technical report writing skills.
• SAP experience or demonstrated ability to learn and use SAP.
• Good networking skills and ability to communicate with outside resources to gather needed information.
• Ability to organize and conduct meetings inside and outside the department.
• Able to speak, comprehend, read, and write English.
• Experience and competence with Microsoft Office Suite including Project, Visio, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Scheduling: Gantt, Excel, Resource Leveling, Multi-Level Gantt.
• Ability to work with diverse teams that include internal and external resources, equipment contractors, and others such as architects and engineering firms when required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Approximately 80% office environment and 20% field environment.
• Regular field exposure in an active mining and industrial environment.
• Walking and working on uneven ground and around active construction and mining operations.
• May require climbing stairs, ladders, or other access systems associated with industrial facilities.
• May require working outdoors in hot, cold, dusty, noisy, and changing weather conditions.
• Required to follow site-specific PPE requirements and MSHA safety requirements while in field and operational areas.
• May require occasional extended hours, weekends, or schedule adjustments based on project requirements and operational needs.
