Job description

The Community Educator provides instruction and teaching to clients registered in the Community Education Programs of the Division of Women’s Services.  The Community Educator represents Ellis Medicine to the community.  Community Education is coordinated in accordance with the hospitals’ Mission Statements and Strategic Initiatives and to provide the customers with consistent community education.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):

  • The Community Educator requires education credentials appropriate to the class offerings provided to the community.  Program offerings include, but are not limited to: Prepared Childbirth, All About Infants, Breastfeeding, Infant Safety and CPR, and Sibling Classes.
    • Professional Certification (Lamaze, International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA), Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA), etc.) required for Childbirth Education
    • Experience and/or education regarding infant care preferred for the Sibling and All About Infants programs.
    • CPR Instructor Certification (Red Cross, American Heart Association, EMS Safety) required for Infant Safety and CPR program.
    • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and/or Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) certification required to teach Breastfeeding Education classes.
    • Required to be able to manage and use technological educational teaching tools for hybrid and virtual education classes.
  • Required education credential to class offering assigned if not held at hire, must be obtained within 6 months from hire date.
  • Associate’s Degree Required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Should be able to push/pull, lift/move 15 lb., be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing, and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers.  Mobility requirements may include the ability to be stationary at a workstation for a prolonged period time in addition to being able to squat or be mobile for a reasonable length of time and distance.  Communication requirements include the ability to comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to communicate and read the English language.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

  • The Community Educator functions as a role model/resource for members of the Community Education faculty in the delivery of prepared childbirth and women’s health education.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of In-Person & Virtual Community Education class curriculum as requested.
  • Collaborates with Community Education Coordinator and Division Director of Women’s Services in identifying program participant needs.
  • Assists in the development, utilization and evaluation of educational materials, products, programs and policies/procedures in conjunction with other members of the Community Education Department.
  • Identifies quality assurance issues and opportunities for improvement related to program offerings.
  • Adheres to the curriculum content as set forth by the Community.
  • The Community Educator develops and maintains an awareness of the services, programs and resources offered in the community.
  • Participates in and develops networking opportunities with other agencies and groups related to childbirth and women’s health issues.
  • Represents Ellis Medicine at community events as requested.
  • Maintains membership in approved professional organizations (i.e. LAMAZE International).
  • Maintains professional competence and expands knowledge by participating in professional development activities, faculty meetings, and workshops.
  • Practice reflects knowledge of current treatment modalities and research in the field of prepared childbirth.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures as outlined in the Organizational Manual.
  • Interprets the philosophy and goals of the hospital and Community Education Program to clients.
  • Collaborates with the other instructors and Division Director regarding educational resources.
  • Maintains participant attendance records.

Salary Range:   $23.40-$33.94/hour                  Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
