Job Title: Capital Project Engineer

Job Description

The Capital Project Engineer leads end-to-end capital project execution within a manufacturing environment, managing initiatives from initial concept through design, construction, commissioning, and final handoff to operations. This role drives project planning and budgeting, introduces new technologies and equipment into production, and supports multi-year capital improvement strategies while ensuring safety, compliance, and continuous improvement across all project activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end execution of capital projects, managing efforts from initial concept through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and final handoff to operations.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including scopes of work, schedules, timelines, and capital budgets that align with business objectives and operational goals.
  • Coordinate cross-functional project teams, partnering closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, Supply Chain, and Finance to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Manage vendors, contractors, and external partners, overseeing tendering processes, scope validation, and contract execution to protect business interests and maintain quality standards.
  • Monitor project performance and financials, tracking progress against plan, managing risks, and implementing corrective actions to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Lead project communication and alignment, organizing and facilitating regular meetings to identify dependencies, resolve issues, and maintain clear visibility for stakeholders.
  • Support capital planning and strategy by contributing to annual capital budgets and long-range capital improvement plans for facilities and equipment.
  • Collaborate with R&D and Product Engineering to introduce new technologies, equipment, and processes into production, ensuring smooth integration with existing operations.
  • Develop and support multi-year capital improvement plans focused on facility upgrades, expansions, and equipment replacement strategies.
  • Ensure safety and regulatory compliance throughout all project phases, adhering to health, safety, and environmental standards during design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project execution by contributing to standard work, best practices, and process optimization across capital project activities.
  • Apply strong technical knowledge of capital equipment and engineering principles to evaluate solutions, troubleshoot issues, and optimize project outcomes.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • A minimum of 7 years of demonstrated project and administrative experience, preferably in capital project or project engineering roles.
  • Strong technical knowledge of capital equipment and related functions within a manufacturing setting.
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles and their practical application to project and equipment design.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including strong computer skills for documentation, analysis, and communication.
  • Proficient user of 2D CAD software, including tools such as DraftSight and/or AutoCAD, for creating and reviewing technical drawings.
  • Experience in technical manufacturing roles, providing hands-on understanding of production processes and equipment.
  • Solid project management and project engineering skills, including planning, coordination, and execution of complex capital projects.

Qualifications

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
