Job description

Position title: Security Supervisor

Position Type: Full-Time, non-exempt, 40 hours/week

Reports to: Director of Security & Emergency Preparedness

Salary: $62,400/year ($30/hr)


The Edlavitch DCJCC (EDCJCC) is a hub for Jewish culture and community in our nationโ€™s capital. Guided by our Jewish values, history, and traditions, the Edlavitch DC Jewish Community Center (EDCJCC) builds and strengthens community by engaging individuals and families of all ages and backgrounds through cultural, educational, recreational, and social responsibility programs.

The EDCJCC is seeking a Security Supervisor to provide hands-on leadership and day-to-day oversight of our security guard team, ensuring that security operations run smoothly, professionally, and in alignment with the organization's protocols and standards. This is a full-time position with flexible scheduling. Some evening and weekend hours are required, and we welcome the opportunity to find an arrangement that works for the right candidate.

  • Manage, schedule, and hire security guards, including handling timesheets, performance management, and disciplinary matters in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Serve at post during designated hours, modeling professionalism, vigilance, and exemplary adherence to EDCJCC security standards for the guard team.
  • Ensure all security policies, protocols, and post orders are carried out by guards efficiently, consistently, and correctly, identifying and addressing gaps in real time.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Security & Emergency Preparedness to write, update, and maintain post orders and security protocols as needs evolve.
  • Serve as the acting security lead in the absence of the Security Director, including responding to and managing alarms and maintaining working relationships with security vendors and law enforcement partners as needed.
  • Identify, recommend, and coordinate training opportunities and professional development resources for security guards to continuously improve team performance and preparedness.
  • Perform administrative security functions including recordkeeping, incident documentation, and reporting, with a high degree of accuracy and organization.

Key Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years prior experience in security supervision or a related leadership role, with a demonstrated ability to manage, motivate, and hold accountable a team of security personnel.
  • Extremely proficient with computers and technology, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), Google calendar, and the ability to learn and navigate security management systems.
  • Responsive and available during off-hours to manage guard call-outs, building alarms, and emergency situations as they arise.
  • Highly organized, dependable, and detail-oriented, with the ability to balance both on-post responsibilities and administrative duties effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners, patrons, guests, etc.
  • Ideal if candidate has an appreciation of the specific security concerns of the Jewish community.
  • Work schedule is flexible and requires consistent availability during evening and weekend hours to meet operational needs
