Job Title: Head of Last Mile

Location: Fontana, CA
Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000 + Annual Bonus
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

JD Logistics is seeking an experienced Head of Last Mile to lead and optimize our rapidly growing last-mile delivery network across North America. This role is responsible for managing carrier operations, driving service performance, developing carrier partnerships, and leading a high-performing operations team supporting more than 10 warehouse locations.

The ideal candidate is a strategic and hands-on logistics leader with extensive experience in last-mile transportation, carrier management, operational planning, and cross-functional collaboration. This individual will play a critical role in improving delivery performance, scaling carrier operations, and ensuring an exceptional customer experience while supporting the continued growth of JDL's 3PL business.

What You'll Do:

Last Mile Operations Management

  • Lead day-to-day last-mile transportation operations across a network of 10+ warehouse locations supporting a rapidly expanding 3PL business.

  • Manage a large portfolio of national, regional, and local last-mile carrier partners to ensure consistent service execution and operational excellence.

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for warehouse teams and carrier partners, resolving operational issues related to pickups, deliveries, routing, package tracing, and service failures.

  • Monitor daily operational performance and ensure service levels are consistently achieved across all facilities.

Carrier Performance & Network Optimization

  • Develop and manage carrier scorecards, business reviews, and performance improvement plans.

  • Analyze carrier performance using key metrics including:

    • On-time pickup and acceptance

    • On-time delivery

    • Exception rates

    • Claims and damages

    • Cost per shipment

    • End-to-end delivery performance

  • Identify underperforming carriers and implement corrective action plans while recognizing opportunities for strategic carrier expansion.

  • Build strong relationships with national and regional parcel and final-mile delivery providers.

Planning & Capacity Management

  • Partner with warehouse operations and carrier planning teams to support:

    • Volume forecasting

    • Route planning

    • Pickup scheduling

    • Capacity planning

    • Peak season readiness

  • Develop operational roadmaps with clear milestones, timelines, ownership, and measurable success metrics.

  • Ensure carrier capacity aligns with business growth and customer demand.

Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze transportation and operational data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.

  • Build dashboards, reports, and visualizations using Excel and business intelligence tools to support operational decision-making.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing costs, improving delivery performance, and increasing operational efficiency.

  • Develop KPI reporting and executive-level performance summaries.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner closely with IT, Product, Warehouse Operations, Sales, Merchant Services, Finance, Customer Success, and Transportation teams on strategic logistics initiatives.

  • Support system implementations and process improvements involving WMS, TMS, ERP, and related logistics platforms.

  • Participate in customer implementations and operational launches to ensure successful last-mile execution.

  • Drive cross-functional projects that improve scalability, automation, and operational excellence.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Last Mile Operations team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Represent the Last Mile Operations department in executive leadership meetings, communicate business priorities, and drive execution across the organization.

  • Translate strategic initiatives into actionable plans for the operations team and ensure timely implementation.

  • Conduct regular business reviews, establish departmental goals, and oversee performance management and employee development.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5-8 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or last-mile operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.

  • Strong experience managing last-mile carrier networks in a 3PL, eCommerce, parcel, retail, or distribution environment.

  • Extensive knowledge of national, regional, and local parcel carriers and last-mile transportation operations.

  • Experience managing carrier performance, SLAs, contracts, and business reviews.

  • Strong planning, forecasting, and operational management skills.

  • Proficiency with ERP, TMS, and WMS platforms.

  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with data visualization and reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar preferred).

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and influence stakeholders across multiple departments.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills with experience presenting to senior leadership.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth logistics environment.

  • Bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese is strongly preferred.
