Are you looking for a hands-on role where you can make a real impact? Join HOPES CAP, Inc. as a Substitute Bus Driver/Custodian and play a key role in safely transporting children and staff and facility upkeep for our Early Childhood Program!
As a Substitute Bus Driver/Custodian, you will be responsible for operating a school bus, ensuring the safe transportation of children and staff to and from school, field trips, and special events. This on-call as needed (per diem) position will maintain compliance with all transportation regulations, help promote a secure and organized travel environment and maintain a clean, safe environment at our facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Safely transport children to and from school, field trips, and program events
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip bus inspections and maintain transportation records
  • Ensure the bus is cleaned, fueled, and properly maintained
  • Conduct emergency bus evacuation drills and safety training for children and staff
  • Transport parents and children to health screenings and other appointments as needed
  • Assist in training newly hired Bus Assistants and Substitute Bus Drivers
  • Follow all safety regulations, program policies, and procedures
  • Keep facilities clean, organized, and in good repair

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma
  • 1+ years of experience driving a school bus or multi-passenger vehicle
  • Valid New Jersey CDL with endorsements for a 54-passenger school bus with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
  • Experience in vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulations and standards applicable to NJ Motor Vehicle Commission
  • Basic computer skills to allow access to email and be able to maintain communication within the agency.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
