This is a part-time position with the City of Canton. An Employee in a part-time position may work up to twenty-nine hours a week and their schedule will be determined by the City. Employees in this position will be offered paid vacation, sick time and a retirement plan.

This is an open examination. To be eligible for this examination, all applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or have a permanent residence card. Applicants must be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.
Job Description
General Statement of Duties: An employee in this classification performs routine and preventative maintenance and repair of all types of electrical equipment and controls.
Distinguishing Features of the Class: Responsible for the proper functioning of all electrical equipment. Physical mobility required for walking, bending, climbing, and stooping to inspect electrical equipment throughout the facilities and for lifting tools, work materials, and motor starting equipment. Inspects electrical equipment throughout the facilities.
Examples of Work: Checks motors for proper electrical loading. Determines circuit amperage. Cleans, adjusts, and repairs motor starting equipment. Wires new equipment. Provides temporary wiring for movable equipment. Cleans motors. Checks and maintains high voltage switchgears and transformers. Assists contractors for proper installation. Repairs and/or replaces circuit breakers from 12 volts to 600 volts. Works with 12,000 volt power fuses. Installs new lighting fixtures and repairs existing equipment. Other related duties, not listed but consistent with and similar in nature to the above examples, may also be required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of electricity, motors, motor controls, high pressure sodium, mercury vapor, fluorescent, incandescent lighting, and National Electric Code. Ability to interpret wiring diagrams from vendors and engineers, diagnose electrical problems, and make necessary corrections.
Acceptable Experience and Training: High school or GED, completion of electrical training at a technical school; and a minimum of five years of related and relevant experience; or any combination of knowledge, training, and experience which will provide the required knowledge and skills.
Waste Water Treatment incentive pay shall be paid to employee(s) in this classification provided the employee possesses a Class I, II, or III Certificate as issued by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, and is an employee of Water Reclamation Facility (WRF).

SHOULD MORE THAN TEN QUALIFIED APPLICANTS REGISTER FOR THIS EXAMINATION, THOSE APPLICANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THE FORMAT, LOCATION, DATE, AND TIME OF THE EXAMINATION.
Repeating an Exam: Per OAC Rule 123: 1-9-01, an applicant who has competed in a civil service examination cannot repeat that examination or take an examination for the same classification within FOUR MONTHS from the date of original examination, unless an alternative form of examination is given, or unless other standards are specific in the examination announcement.
Rating: Your name will be placed on a list of eligible candidates upon receiving a passing score. Once the list has been established, your name will remain on the list for a period of one (1) year.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO VETERANS
