Job description

Job Title: Senior Associate Tax Advisor & Client Manager

Company: Cox Advisory & Tax Location: Lehi, UT (Hybrid Options Available) Compensation: $75,000 - $85,000 Base Salary + Accelerated Production Bonuses (First-Year Target Earnings: $100,000 - $130,000+). We utilize a highly lucrative split-production formula designed to reward you as you transition from tax preparation into client management and delegation.

About the Role

Cox Advisory & Tax is seeking a highly communicative and ambitious Associate Tax Advisor to join our team. We are a fast-paced, forward-thinking firm that leverages modern technology to deliver exceptional service and proactive tax strategies to our clients.

In this role, you will be the day-to-day face of the firm for a designated book of business. We are looking for an emerging "strategic partner"—someone who is ready to step out of the pure tax-prep grind and start building client relationships, identifying tax-saving opportunities, and acting as a business advisor. While you will still handle some complex preparation, your primary goal will be learning to delegate standard tasks to our technical team, review their work, and deliver the final product to the client.

This role is designed to act as a launchpad. We provide a solid base salary to start, paired with an aggressive production model that allows you to scale your income rapidly as you build your advisory skills and successfully manage your client book.

Core Responsibilities

  • Client Communication: Serve as a primary point of contact for small business and individual clients. Lead standard client meetings, explain tax return outcomes, and answer general business inquiries.
  • Tax Planning & Strategy: Assist in analyzing client financial data to identify and implement tax-saving opportunities throughout the year.
  • Workflow Delegation: Begin transitioning work downward by assigning standard trial balance adjustments, bookkeeping corrections, and baseline tax return preparation to technical staff.
  • Review & Quality Control: Perform initial reviews on tax returns prepared by technicians. Learn to provide constructive feedback to ensure accuracy and elevate the team's capabilities.
  • Technical Preparation: Handle the preparation and input for more complex, multi-entity tax structures (C-Corps, S-Corps, Partnerships) while managing associated personal returns and K-1s.

Qualifications & Ideal Profile

  • Experience & Credentials: 2–4 years of experience in public accounting with a solid foundation in tax preparation. CPA license or Enrolled Agent (EA) credential is preferred, or you are actively pursuing certification.
  • Software Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of Lacerte, Excel, and general bookkeeping principles is required. Familiarity with Canopy for workflow management or Microsoft Copilot for AI-assisted tasks is a plus.
  • Leadership Potential: You are ready to step into a supervisory workflow. You possess the organization skills to manage a pipeline of work and the ability to give clear instructions to technical inputters.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills. You are comfortable jumping on a call to explain a tax liability to a client without getting bogged down in confusing accounting jargon.
  • Hours: Expect mandatory overtime during peak tax seasons (Feb–April & Sept–Oct). In exchange, enjoy a highly flexible, reduced schedule (3–4 days a week) during off-peak months (e.g., May–August, November–December).
  • Drive: Highly motivated to learn the advisory side of the business and maximize your income through a performance-based compensation structure rather than a static salary.
