Job description

Our Story:
Story Cannabis was built by misfits on a mission - people bold enough to shift the cannabis narrative and create something better. Founded in 2021 by industry veterans, Story is a vertically integrated company headquartered in Phoenix, operating across Arizona, Maryland, Ohio, and Louisiana, and we're just getting started.
Our vision is to bring hope, happiness, and healing to the world through cannabis, and we're doing it one state, one store, and one customer at a time.
Leadership defines how we show up. Data drives how we grow. Gratitude keeps us grounded. Unity fuels our momentum. And growth, in every sense, inspires everything we do.
If you're ready to challenge what's expected and shape the future of cannabis, your next chapter starts with Story.
Overview:
Story is adopting a Default-to-AI strategy-if AI can reliably automate or materially improve a process, we deploy it. As the Accounting & Finance AI Automation Manager, you will design and implement AI-driven systems that transform Accounting, Finance, and adjacent functions into a real-time, scalable operating platform.
Working directly with our Finance and Accounting leadership team to align on clearly defined priorities, you will deliver measurable impact through automation, improved data integrity, and faster decision-making. This role offers a unique opportunity to help architect the future of Story's AI-enabled operating model across multiple platforms and workflows.
Responsibilities:
  • Architect and deploy AI-enabled workflows across Accounting, Finance, and operational functions to materially reduce manual effort, improve accuracy, and accelerate time-to-close.
  • Automate reconciliations, journal entries, accrual calculations, and close processes to create a more efficient and scalable monthly and quarterly close.
  • Integrate AI across financial and operational systems (ERP, POS, inventory, FP&A tools, data warehouses) to improve data integrity, consistency, and real-time visibility.
  • Design intelligent workflows that transform finance from a periodic reporting function into a continuous, real-time operating platform.
  • Own and maintain existing AI and automation workflows ensuring ongoing reliability, performance, and audit readiness.
  • Continuously improve automated processes supporting AP accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, lease accounting, intercompany, and other complex accounting areas.
  • Monitor AI workflow performance and proactively identify opportunities to improve accuracy, speed, and scalability.
  • Establish standardized automation frameworks that can be deployed consistently across multiple business units and entities.
  • Lead AI initiatives from concept through pilot, testing, deployment, and enterprise-scale rollout.
  • Define project roadmaps, milestones, and measurable ROI targets tied to efficiency gains, cost reduction, and improved financial insight.
  • Identify and implement repeatable automation patterns that can scale across multiple workflows and systems.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement aligned with a Default-to-AI operating philosophy.

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, AI, Machine Learning, or Data Science required.
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or financial systems, with exposure to process improvement or automation initiatives.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools and large language models (LLMs) to automate or enhance accounting and finance processes.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and integrating data across multiple platforms.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, data quality, and system integrations across finance and operational systems.
  • Proven ability to analyze and redesign processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Experience building or supporting automated reconciliations, close processes, or financial workflows preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner cross-functionally across Finance, IT, and Operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with data visualization tools.

Physical Requirements:
  • This role requires prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

The posted compensation range reflects the potential range for this role across multiple U.S. markets. Actual compensation will be determined based on geographic location, experience, and qualifications.
