Job description

OVERVIEW
Perfetti Van Melle (makers of Mentos, Airheads, Dentyne, Trident and Bubblicious!) is one of the world's largest manufacturers and distributors of confectionery and chewing gum with global brands that are being enjoyed in more than 150 countries worldwide. We're currently seeking passionate and enthusiastic Production Operators to join our growing team.
Starting Pay:$ 21.50 (includes $1.50 shift differential)
Hours: 6:00pm-6:30am
12 Hour Continental - Rotating schedule for entire year - Work Half the Year!

WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a key member of our manufacturing team, the Production Operator performs all functions associated with the start-up, shutdown, lockout, sanitation, and operation of the packaging process equipment. Troubleshoots equipment and makes necessary adjustments to ensure the efficient flow of product. Ensures product quality within controlled parameters to minimize waste.
  • Efficiently and safely operate and monitor all packaging equipment to maintain product flow from discharge of the extruder to palletize.
  • Responsible for package integrity and quality checks, including metal, seals, code date, and product weight and case counts/weights.
  • Monitor and maintain correct product/case weights.
  • Handle scrap and waste from machine, as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot equipment to ensure continuous operation.
  • Perform data entry into the computer.
  • Work in a safe and responsible manner, exercising caution to avoid accidents, prevent injury to people or damage to the equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly work area. Ensure area is clean and organized as part of the shift hand-off and weekly shutdown/sanitation process. Operate floor scrubber and other cleaning devices as required.
  • Adhere to all safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) policies and promote safe work practices.
  • Responsible for notifying maintenance or supervisor when line or piece of line is down and needs attention.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Previous manufacturing/warehouse/distribution experience is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to work overtime hours, above your normal schedule, to meet customer's demands.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem analysis skills.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)- Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Uniform, Hairnet, Beard net, and Mask when required.
  • Occasional exposed to dusty conditions due to the handling of bulk products. The employee must be able to wear and use breathing protection devices as required while working in these conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Ability to talk, hear, and smell.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally push/pull 350-pound carts with wheels.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Employee must be flexible in learning and working in other job functions to ensure a competent, trained workforce.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between facilities preferred.
