Job description

JOB SUMMARY
Support the Southern California Conference ("SCC") in accomplishing its mission, "to exalt Christ by cultivating healthy churches and schools" and its core values of integrity with transparency, engagement, stewardship, unity in diversity, and relationships & team.

The Camp Manager - Facilities provides strategic leadership for the year-round operation, maintenance, and stewardship of Camp Cedar Falls. This position oversees facilities, personnel, budgets, safety, and capital improvements while ensuring a secure, welcoming, and Christ-centered environment that supports the mission of the Southern California Conference.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Regular attendance.
  2. Spiritual and Missional Leadership
    1. Support camp-wide initiatives that strengthen the spiritual mission of the camp.
    2. Maintain a distinctly Christ-centered atmosphere throughout all camp programs and operations.
    3. Ensure that camp activities are consistent with the beliefs, mission, and values of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
    4. Model Christian character, integrity, hospitality, and respect in relationships with employees, campers, volunteers, guests, vendors, and community partners.
  3. Strategic Leadership and Development
    1. Develop and recommend an annual ministry and operational plan for Camp.
    2. Develop and implement strategies to increase year-round utilization of the camp.
    3. Build strategic partnerships that expand the camp's ministry impact.
    4. Evaluate program effectiveness using attendance, guest satisfaction, and spiritual outcomes.
    5. Promote the camp in cooperation with SCC Communication and participating departments.
    6. Coordinate and support the Youth director in delivering summer camp and other youth-focused programs.
    7. Cultivate relationships with formers campers and staff, camp families, churches, supporters, and donors to identify and support funding opportunities, grants, sponsorships, and donor-funded capital projects.
  4. Program Administration
    1. Coordinate with the Youth Ministries Department in planning and delivering summer camp and other youth-focused programs.
    2. Oversee or support retreats: church events, school activities, training events, family camps, and other approved uses of the property.
    3. Support group registration.
    4. Provide welcoming, responsive, and professional experience for campers, churches, schools, retreat groups, employees, volunteers, and guests.
    5. Oversee reservations, contracts, check-in and check-out procedures, lodging assignments, food service, housekeeping, and guest communication.
    6. Establish and communicate clear expectations for facility use, conduct, safety, payment, and care of property.
    7. Respond promptly and appropriately to guest concerns and service needs.
  5. Personnel and Financial Management
    1. Recruit, recommend, train, supervise, evaluate, and develop year-round and seasonal employees in accordance with SCC employment policies.
    2. Develop, administer, and monitor the camp operating budget and recommend corrective actions to maintain fiscal responsibility.
    3. Work with Conference Human Resources to ensure that hiring, scheduling, supervision, discipline, and termination practices comply with applicable policies and laws including background screening, child-protection training, safety training, and position-specific certifications.
    4. Foster a healthy workplace characterized by accountability, teamwork, cultural sensitivity, and mutual respect.
    5. Prepare an annual operating and capital budget in consultation with the Conference Treasurer/CFO and other designated administrators.
    6. Monitor operating budgets, revenue, expenditures, purchasing, inventory, reservations, and payroll information for accuracy and fiscal accountability.
    7. Establish appropriate internal controls for handling money, deposits, registrations, purchasing, and camp property.
    8. Obtain required authorization before entering contracts, making major purchases, or committing Conference resources.
    9. Address employee concerns and workplace conflicts in consultation with Conference Human Resources, as appropriate.
    10. Foster opportunities for professional and spiritual growth among staff and campers.
  6. Property Administration
    1. Oversee the care, cleanliness, repair, and responsible use of all camp buildings, grounds, roads, utilities, equipment, vehicles, recreational areas, and natural resources.
    2. Develop and maintain preventive-maintenance schedules and accurate records of inspections, repairs, warranties, and equipment servicing.
    3. Identify deferred maintenance and capital needs and recommend priorities to Conference administration.
    4. Coordinate approved construction and renovation projects with the Asset/Risk Management Department and other designated Conference personnel.
    5. Ensure that water systems, sanitation systems, kitchens, lodging facilities, recreational areas, fire-protection systems, and other essential infrastructure are maintained appropriately.
    6. Prepare the camp for seasonal weather conditions, including snow, freezing temperatures, storms, flooding, wildfire danger, and restricted road access.
    7. Ensure Water purification system meets state standards.
    8. Develop productive relationships with local agencies, neighboring property owners, vendors, service providers, emergency responders, and community organizations.
  7. Safety
    1. Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, county, fire, environmental, health, labor, accessibility, and camp-related regulations.
    2. Develop and maintain current emergency-response plans addressing wildfire, evacuation, severe weather, medical emergencies, missing persons, utility interruption, natural disasters, active threats, and other foreseeable emergencies.
    3. Ensure that required permits, licenses, inspections, certifications, insurance documentation, and incident records remain current.
    4. Report accidents, injuries, allegations, property damage, and other significant incidents promptly according to SCC policy.
    5. Cooperate fully with governmental authorities, insurers, emergency responders, and Conference leadership when incidents occur.
    6. Ensure compliance with SCC child protection policies, AB 506 requirements, Live Scan requirements, mandated reporter requirements, and other applicable Conference safety policies.
  8. Organizational Participation
    1. Attend meetings and serve on committees as requested by Conference administration.
  9. Comply with policies and procedures of SCC, including but not limited to those in the Employee Handbook, the Pacific Union's Education Code, and the North American Division Working Policy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments at a mountain camp located at approximately 5,000 feet elevation. The employee may be exposed to heat, cold, snow, rain, wind, dust, uneven terrain, insects, wildlife, construction activity, maintenance equipment, and varying noise levels.
  • The position requires flexible and extended hours, particularly during summer camp, retreats, emergencies, severe weather, and high-use periods. Evening, weekend, holiday, and on-call responsibilities will be required.
  • Periodic travel may be required for meetings, training, purchasing, recruitment, and other Conference responsibilities.
  • On-site housing is provided as part of this position and is subject to Conference policies and occupancy requirements.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
