About the role | What you'll do
Runs a whole Sofive Summer Camp end to end: operations, staff, safety, families. This is more than a Camp Manager - they build and lead the camp, not just run the day.
The Head Summer Camp Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management, growth, safety, and success of a large-scale youth summer camp operation. This role provides strategic direction and hands-on leadership for all aspects of camp programming, staffing, marketing, customer service, financial management, risk management, and daily operations.
The Head Summer Camp Manager ensures that every camper, family, and staff member experiences a safe, engaging, organized, and memorable summer while maintaining compliance with all state regulations and organizational policies.
This is a year-round leadership position responsible for planning, developing, staffing, marketing, and executing a summer camp program serving hundreds of families and employing a large seasonal workforce.
Responsibilities
  • Leadership & staff
    • Supervise all Managers, Assistant Managers, Counselors and support staff
    • Run all staff evaluations, training, and team-building
    • Plan daily/weekly staffing; run daily staff meetings
    • Keep a qualified Manager or Assistant Manager always on duty for each grade
  • Daily operations
    • Open and close the camp each day
    • Run daily morning meetings with campers
    • Prepare daily, weekly, and elective schedules
    • Supervise roll calls and cross-checks at set times (e.g. 8:40am, 1:15pm, 2:45pm, 4:15pm)
    • Oversee all daily activities per grade, including field trips, swim trips, off-site activities
    • Plan weekly special activities (e.g. Friday events)
    • Supervise lunch and snack, overseeing kitchen and clean-up staff
    • Set up, clean up, and care for equipment
  • Health, safety & safeguarding
    • Always promote fun and safety
    • Work with the Health Manager on campers' health needs (allergies, special needs, etc.)
    • Run all drills and bus evacuation drills
    • Handle all emergencies
    • Reinforce positive behavior and remind campers of the rules
  • Discipline & parents
    • Be the link between staff and parents
    • Handle all discipline issues and the related parent communication
  • Facility
    • Keep the facility and grounds clean, orderly and ready for nightly and weekend events
