YMCA Camp Carter is a beautiful 360-acre year-round summer camp located right in the heart of Fort Worth, TX. At camp, we offer 11 weeks of care that runs from Tuesday, May 26th through Friday, August 7th with an exciting variety of camp options to please every kind of camper at every age! Our traditional multi-activity camp provides options like STEM, arts, horseback riding, swimming, boating, fishing, and more!  Position Summary

YMCA Camp Carter is seeking energetic, positive, and responsible Summer Overnight Camp Counselors to lead campers through a transformative summer experience. You’ll guide activities, foster personal growth, and ensure safety all while living in a vibrant camp community.


Why Overnight Camp Is Different

This is not your typical day camp job it’s a full immersion experience! Overnight Camp Counselors live on-site, provide cabin supervision at night, and create a safe, fun, and inclusive environment 24/7. Counselors receive one day off per week and rotate nights off during the season. If you love building deep connections, leading adventures, and creating lifelong memories, this is the role for you.


Essential Responsibilities
  • Cabin Leadership: Supervise and care for campers overnight, ensuring safety and comfort in cabins.
  • Activity Facilitation: Lead and participate in camp activities in the morning and evening camp-wide formats as well as during the day: swimming, arts, STEM, horseback riding, boating, and more.
  • Role Modeling: Demonstrate YMCA core values—Honesty, Caring, Respect, Responsibility—and inspire campers to grow as leaders and team players.
  • Safety First: Maintain proper ratios, know every camper by name, carry first aid supplies, and stay responsive via walkie-talkie.
  • Camp Spirit: Sing songs, cheer, play games, and make every day unforgettable.
  • Collaboration: Work with fellow counselors and leadership to deliver a high-quality camp experience.

Schedule & Commitment
  • Overnight Camp begins on June 14th and runs through June 25th.
  • Living On-Site: 
    • Overnight Camp Counselors must commit to living onsite in staff housing for the duration of the camp season.
    • Housing and meals provided during camp sessions.
  • Time Off: One day off per week + scheduled nights off.
  • Commitment: Overnight camp is a commitment! The days are long but rewarding!

Qualifications
  • Unit Leader: Age 21+
  • Overnight Camp Counselors: Age 18–20+
  • Passion for working with youth in an outdoor setting
  • Ability to be active, energetic, and engaged all day
  • CPR/First Aid certification (training provided if needed)

Compensation
  • All overnight camp staff are paid on a stipend basis in bi-weekly chunks.
  • Unit Leaders - $600 per week
  • Counselors - $520 per week
