Job description

Maui Humane Society is an open-admissions animal shelter for cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, turtles, and other animals. We provide veterinary and routine care and help surrendered animals find a new home. We also provide humane law enforcement services, education and outreach, programs to retain pets in their families, and low-cost spay and neuter surgeries. Our team is resilient, compassionate to animals, creative problem-solvers, and dedicated to do what it takes to get the job done.

We're excited to welcome you as our new Humane Education Coordinator. In this role you will oversee training of best practices in animal care specifically focused on dog behavior. You'll be the point of contact and subject matter expert for those within MHS. You will be responsible for educating our community on dog behaviors and best training methods, leading to less dog intakes at the shelter and a lower rate of return for behavioral issues.

What you'll be doing (with a team and training):

  • Training MHS staff and volunteers on best practices
  • Researching and implementing activities and programs
  • Hosting events and trainings for the community
  • Developing and leading outreach programs to engage, support, and educate the community

To be successful in this role you'll need to have (minimum qualifications):

  • Certified in Animal Behavior
  • Familiarity with animal behavior, specifically in undersocialized dogs
  • Experience in animal welfare

We'd love it if you already had (desired qualifications):

  • Experience with shelter software (PetPoint)
  • Open intake shelter experience
  • Fear Free Certification
  • Veterinarian Technician Certification / Licensing

What you can expect from us:

  • Regular supportive feedback
  • Career growth
  • A comprehensive compensation package including:
    • Medical benefits at no cost to you
    • Dental & Vision benefits at low cost
    • FSA
    • 401K with match
    • Student loan forgiveness eligibility
    • Performance pay raises
