We are seeking Pidgin English Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Pidgin English (commonly spoken in Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, and other West African nations) is a critical language variety often required for asylum, refugee, and immigration cases.
Responsibilities
  • Provide real-time Pidgin English ↔ Standard English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and asylum proceedings.
  • Interpret with accuracy, neutrality, and professionalism in immigration and legal contexts.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to USCIS/DHS interpreter ethics standards.
  • Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge interpretation requests.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and QA audits.
Qualifications
  • Native or near-native fluency in Pidgin English (West African variety) and Standard English.
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, legal, community, NGO, or government strongly preferred).
  • Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and neutrality standards.
  • Strong understanding of cultural nuances and regional variations of Pidgin English.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.
