Job description

The Loss Prevention Safety Specialist focuses on customer service and provides a hands-off approach at Goodwill SoCal locations. The LP Safety Specialist monitors surveillance camera systems, secures building, provides reception, administrative and informational services, creates reports and provides exceptional customer service in the process. This role observes and reports conditions and incidents to the Regional Loss Prevention Representative with high standard of alertness, responsibility, and confidentiality, greets customers, prevents shoplifting by using strong customer service skills and provides direction and assists in emergencies.
What you'll do:
  1. In a non-Security Officer role, provides alert, professional assistance to the Loss Prevention team in their role of protecting company facilities, company assets, Ambassadors and guest.
  2. Provides excellent and professional customer service to all employees and guests.
  3. Reacts effectively and professionally to needed and requested assistance.
  4. Uses effective and professional written communication skills to prepare incident reports, Daily Activity Reports, e-mail communications, and all other required forms, logs and reports.
  5. Assists the Regional Loss Prevention Managers with special projects and assignments.
  6. When assigned to Campus lobby reception, assists with verification of Ambassador or visitor identification and coordination of appointments, camera surveillance, and other administrative duties.
  7. When assigned to a Campus location, daily operations duties: Front lobby reception, key assist, opening and closing gate assistance for deliveries and trucks, responsible for emergency company cell phone while on shift, answers emergency phone to assist Ambassadors, emergencies, evacuations, opening shift opens building, closing shift; secures building, Camera surveillance, patrols Campus inside and outside for safety of Ambassadors, trespassing, partner with Regional Loss Prevention Manager, reports incidents, call 911 when needed, de-escalate aggressive guests and Ambassadors, reports transient and dumping issues.
  8. When assigned to a Retail location, daily operations duties: Visually seen by customers and Ambassadors while on sales floor, greets customers, customer service, focuses on high shrink areas of store, focuses on purchase products, customer service shoplifters, de-escalates shoplifters and aggressive customers, assists Managers with trespassing, responds and directs in emergencies, assists in evacuations, camera surveillance when needed, clears safety hazards, partners with Regional Loss Prevention Manager, reports incidents.
  9. Promptly reports serious incidents such as medical emergencies, crimes of violence, disasters, fires, acts of vandalism, theft, illegal entry, burglaries, serious or unusual incidents or circumstances and any other such incidents to the appropriate parties.
  10. Effectively deals with difficult or aggressive individuals in a professional manner.
  11. Assists Regional Loss Prevention Managers, as required, in leading, organizing and developing other Loss prevention Ambassadors.
  12. Assist Regional Loss Prevention Managers with projects and administrative duties as required.
  13. This position requires some travel (up to 50%) within Southern California. A valid CA driver's license and state-required auto insurance. Driving records must be acceptable by our insurance carrier.

What you bring:
  • 1 year or more of Loss Prevention and/or Security experience.
  • Multi-tasking, able to communicate with Law Enforcement in a clear detailed manner.
  • Ability to write reports, emails and camera log effectively.
  • Must have basic knowledge of computer programs in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel, Teams and E-mail.
  • Knowledge of Camera surveillance systems: Verkada, Transcendent, Blue Iris, any other similar systems
  • Ability to deal quickly with problems in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Possesses a valid driver's license and state-required auto insurance.
  • This position may require some travel.
  • Shift flexibility and overtime when needed.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills shown by understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, cooperation, concern, and politeness to others.
  • Ability to relate well to people from diverse backgrounds and with disabilities.
