POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications Technician I is an entry-level field technician responsible for assisting with the installation, operation, and maintenance of EnerStar Solutions communications and remote monitoring systems across active job sites. This role works closely with the Communications Manager and other technicians in a daily operations role installing and monitoring communications equipment.

The Communications Technician I is expected to follow established procedures, learn technical systems, and develop field skills in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. This position requires a strong work ethic, pride of ownership, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities while building foundational technical knowledge.


Core Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize safety in all tasks and comply with company and client safety protocols
  • Champion EnerStar Core Values in all professional activities
  • Respond to service calls and assigned work orders as directed by Communications Management
  • Provide field support for communications deployments (rig-ups, rig-downs, equipment moves, etc.)
  • Assist with installation, testing, and basic troubleshooting of communications systems
  • Provide customer support for basic technical issues related to satellite, internet, cameras, LTE, and other communications equipment
  • Coordinate with logistics and operations teams to support jobsite communications needs
  • Deploy and demobilize communications systems (Starlink, LTE, etc.), ensuring proper operational functionality
  • Assist with configuration and programming of antennas and networking equipment (Starlinks, modems, routers, switches, access points, etc.)
  • Assist with configuration and setup of camera systems and remote monitoring solutions
  • Log into cloud portals to check basic equipment status
  • Assist with repair and maintenance of communications equipment (e.g., cameras, monitors, cabling)
  • Assist with communications tower setup and booster equipment deployment
  • Complete work order tickets with appropriate detail and accuracy
  • Complete KPA truck inventory and communications inventory reports (rig-up, rig-down, rig move, maintenance/repair, site inventory)
  • Maintain truck logs, vehicle inspection reports, and complete scheduled vehicle preventative maintenance
  • Provide input on field improvements as skills develop
  • Perform additional duties as identified and assigned

Travel: This position requires the ability and willingness to travel as needed to support EnerStar Solutions operations. Overnight travel will be required at times and may include trips lasting multiple days.

Job Demands /Environment

Physical Requirements:This role involves frequent lifting (up to 50 pounds), bending, climbing, walking, and standing for extended periods, as well as working in confined spaces. Candidates must be physically capable of safely performing these duties.

Medical Fitness:Due to the nature of the work and safety protocols, candidates must be medically fit to handle physically demanding tasks and work in varying environmental conditions. Pre-employment and periodic medical evaluations may be required.

Work Conditions:Work is often performed outdoors in extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, with regular exposure to dust, noise, and other environmental factors.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • EnGenius Certified Network Specialist required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college diploma or equivalent considered an asset
  • Additional technical certifications in networking, telecommunications, or electronics are considered an asset

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working within technical teams preferred
  • Experience installing any of the following is considered an asset: internet, cable, intercom, telecom, satellite, or remote monitoring equipment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Consistently demonstrate a professional demeanor
  • Computer proficiency
  • Basic technical skills in telecommunications, networking, and cabling
  • Ability and willingness to learn to fabricate and terminate RJ-45, coaxial, LMR240, and LMR400 cables and connectors
  • Ability to learn to configure, deploy, and support satellite-based internet systems
  • Ability to learn to configure, deploy, and support PTZ network camera systems
  • Ability to repair electronic equipment is considered an asset
  • Ability to learn to use signal-finding tools to optimize antenna positioning for peak signal strength
  • Ability to learn to set up communications towers and booster equipment
  • Ability to learn to set up and monitor communications equipment such as Starlink, Wi-Fi routers, and access points
