What are some typical daily responsibilities of a CAM Programmer?

As a CAM Programmer, your daily tasks typically include translating engineering drawings and 3D models into CNC machine instructions, optimizing tool paths, and selecting appropriate cutting tools to maximize efficiency and quality. You may also collaborate with machinists and production teams to troubleshoot machining issues, make on-the-fly adjustments to programs, and ensure quality standards are met. CAM Programmers often review and revise existing programs to improve cycle times or adapt to new materials. This role requires close attention to changing production requirements and proactive communication with other departments, ensuring smooth and efficient manufacturing workflows.

What does a CAM Programmer do?

A CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) Programmer creates and optimizes CNC machine tool programs using CAM software. They convert engineering designs and CAD models into precise machining instructions. Their role involves selecting cutting tools, defining tool paths, and ensuring efficiency in the manufacturing process. CAM Programmers work closely with engineers and machinists to improve production quality and minimize waste.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Cam Programmer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CAM Programmer, you need strong expertise in CNC programming, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software, and a solid understanding of machining processes, typically supported by a technical degree or vocational training in manufacturing or engineering. Job description

Hadrian - Manufacturing the Future

Hadrian is building autonomous factories that help aerospace and defense companies manufacture rockets, satellites, jets, and ships up to 10x faster and up to 2x cheaper. By combining advanced software, robotics, and full-stack manufacturing, we are reinventing how America produces its most critical parts.

Weโ€™re accelerating our mission with the launch of Factory 3 in Mesa, Arizona, a 290,000-square-foot facility creating 350 new jobs. We are expanding rapidly to support thousands of future hires, launching Hadrian Maritime to expand into naval production, and introducing a Factory-as-a-Service model that delivers complete systems instead of individual parts.

Hadrian is backed by leading investors including T. Rowe Price, Lux Capital, Founders Fund, and Andreessen Horowitz, our fast-growing team is united around reindustrializing American manufacturing for the 21st century and beyond.

The Role

CAM Execution is a hybrid Process Engineering role operating at the intersection of CAM programming, applications engineering and inspection. The team is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving failures across the full manufacturing process, ensuring that programmed intent translates into reliable, repeatable production outcomes.

This role works across CNC programs, machine setups, CMM inspection, GD&T interpretation, operator workflows and cutting tool applications to identify where breakdowns occur and implement robust, production-grade fixes. It is a process ownership role focused on end-to-end manufacturing stability.

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Root Cause Analysis - Diagnose and correct failures across CNC programs, machine setups, inspection workflows, and on machine cutting parameters. Analyze CMM data, validate against customer specifications and GD&T requirements, inspect fixtures, and verify machine processes. Implement solutions that are repeatable, simple, and production stable.

  • CAM โ†” Manufacturing Interface - Bridge the gap between CAM programming and shop-floor execution. Refine tool paths, machining strategies and cutting parameters based on real-world machine behavior, material response, and inspection feedback.

  • Team Collaboration - Work cross-functionally with CAM Programming, Quality, CMM Programming, Applications, Automation, and Go-To-Market teams to develop informed and aligned process solutions.

  • System Improvement - Identify systemic weaknesses in the manufacturing process and drive improvements across the factory. Standardize solutions, eliminate recurring issues, and increase overall process robustness.

What Weโ€™re Looking For

  • CAM Programming - 5+ years programming aerospace parts

  • High-Level Problem Solving - Ability to decompose complex, multi-variable manufacturing issues and converge on root cause quickly. Capable of implementing effective solutions in high-complexity environments.

  • Process Engineering - Has a track record of successfully machining difficult parts with stringent requirements. Understands the pitfalls of operation selection, material removal, tooling application, and material science.

  • Machining Knowledge - Has applicable experience with a variety of machine types (mills, lathes), materials (alum, stainless, hard metals), tooling application, workholding, and fixture design.

  • GD&T - Strong understanding of GD&T and engineering print reading.

  • Communication - Clear and effective written and verbal communication. Ability to collaborate across teams and convey technical information accurately.

What Will Set You Apart

  • Experience with 5-axis milling machines, vertical mill turn and horizontal mill turn.

  • Experience with HyperMILL, NX, Heidenhain, Fanuc and Celos

  • Hard metal cutting experience (Inconel, Icytough, Stainless)

  • Applications engineering for machining processes

  • Process Engineering for high production environments including โ€œturnkeyโ€ processes

Benefits for Full-time Employees
  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans for employees

  • 401k

  • Relocation support may be provided for certain situations, based on business need.

  • Flexible vacation policy
