Job Title: CAD/CAM Programmer | CNC Machinist (Senior Level)
Location: Chattanooga, TN 37406
Pay: $32-42/hr.

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled CAD/CAM Programmer | CNC Machinist to join our team in a senior-level role that blends advanced programming expertise with hands-on machining and team development. This position plays a critical role in driving process efficiency, supporting complex setups, and elevating the performance of the machinist team.

You will serve as a key technical resource, connecting engineering designs with shop floor execution. The ideal candidate thrives in both programming and machining environments and takes pride in mentoring others.


Key Responsibilities

CNC Programming & Optimization

  • Write, edit, and optimize CNC programs using CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidWorks CAM, or similar)
  • Prove out new programs on machines, ensuring accuracy and readiness for production
  • Optimize G-code to improve cycle times, extend tool life, and reduce scrap
  • Maintain organized program libraries and machining templates
  • Select tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies by material and job
  • Troubleshoot programming issues and implement corrective actions

Setup Support & Floor Leadership

  • Support complex setups, especially first-time or high-risk jobs
  • Lead setup activities for prototype and first-article parts
  • Act as the go-to expert for machinists needing technical support
  • Perform and support first-article inspections
  • Troubleshoot machining issues including tooling, dimensional accuracy, and surface finish

Training & Development

  • Train machinists on setups, program logic, and machining techniques
  • Develop setup sheets, work instructions, and visual aids
  • Support onboarding and skill development of new team members
  • Identify skill gaps and support targeted training initiatives
  • Uphold high standards of safety, quality, and craftsmanship

Process Improvement

  • Identify and implement improvements to reduce cycle time and waste
  • Improve existing programs and communicate changes to the team
  • Collaborate with Engineering on manufacturability and new product introduction
  • Improve tooling, fixtures, and setup processes
  • Contribute to scrap reduction and quality improvements

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 8+ years of CNC machining experience, including multi-axis setups
  • Strong experience with CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidWorks CAM, or similar)
  • Advanced G-code knowledge (write, edit, optimize at the machine)
  • Ability to read complex drawings and GD&T
  • Experience with precision measurement tools, including CMM
  • Proven ability to train and mentor machinists

Preferred

  • Technical degree, trade certification, or apprenticeship in machining or manufacturing
  • Experience with SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor
  • Background in prototype machining or product development
  • Experience with advanced materials (titanium, stainless steel, composites)
  • Prior leadership or training experience in a machine shop
  • Experience in medical device or similar regulated environments

Pay Details: $32.00 to $42.00 per hour
