Primary Objective 

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of Eagle Products' traffic safety and roadway solutions. This position supports the full product lifecycle from concept development through production launch and sustaining engineering activities. The Mechanical Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams including Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, and Product Management to develop innovative, cost-effective, and manufacturable products that meet customer requirements, industry standards, and company objectives.


The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical design experience, proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, product testing, and engineering documentation. This role requires a hands-on approach to product development and problem solving while driving continuous improvement initiatives throughout the organization 

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Product Design & Development

Design, develop, and improve Eagle Products' traffic safety and roadway products using sound engineering principles.

Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, assemblies, and product documentation utilizing CAD software.

Develop product concepts and prototypes to support new product development initiatives.

Perform engineering calculations, tolerance stack-ups, structural evaluations, and design analyses to ensure product performance and reliability.

Evaluate product designs for manufacturability, assembly efficiency, durability, serviceability, and cost effectiveness.

Select appropriate materials, components, and manufacturing methods based on performance and cost objectives.


Project Management & Product Lifecycle Support

Lead engineering projects from concept through production release and product sustainment.

Coordinate prototype development, testing, validation, and production implementation activities.

Develop project timelines and support product launch activities.

Monitor project progress and communicate status to management and cross-functional stakeholders.

Support product roadmap initiatives through engineering research and product innovation.


Manufacturing & Operations Support

Work closely with manufacturing personnel to optimize product designs and production processes.

Support production teams by troubleshooting design, assembly, and manufacturing challenges.

Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, assembly instructions, and engineering documentation.

Create and manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).

Identify opportunities for cost reduction, process improvements, and waste elimination.


Testing, Validation & Quality

Develop and execute product testing and validation plans.

Analyze test data and recommend design improvements based on findings.

Investigate product failures, customer complaints, and quality concerns.

Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.

Ensure products comply with applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.


Supplier & Customer Support

Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate components, materials, and manufacturing capabilities.

Support supplier qualification and component evaluation activities.

Provide technical support to Sales, Customer Service, and Operations teams.

Assist customers with technical inquiries and product application support when required.


Continuous Improvement

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.

Recommend and implement engineering best practices, design standards, and process improvements.

Support Lean Manufacturing and operational excellence initiatives.

Maintain accurate engineering records and documentation in accordance with company procedures.

Provide general administrative and technical support to the Engineering Department as needed.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering technology or a related technical discipline required.
  • 4-6 years of experience in engineering, drafting, or technical support role preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, CREO, SolidWorks, or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with traffic control industry standards (NEMA, TS2, ATC, Caltrans).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
