Summary:
This position is for a Repairman on Panhandle Eastern Pipeline's Zionsville Project Crew. The Zionsville Project Crew is based in Indianapolis, IN, but supports an area spanning from Southern Michigan through Northwest Ohio to Central Indiana. As an entry-level Repairman you will be trained in Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company's Safety, Operation, Maintenance and Repair procedures related to natural gas pipeline facilities and equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duties satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
  • Perform physically demanding tasks essential to the position, including digging (shoveling) and backfilling ditches, painting, lifting, cleaning and coating pipe, building construction, working in extreme high and low temperatures, valve operating and general manual labor.
  • Assists in maintaining and repairing of the pipeline right-of-way.
  • Installs and maintains pipeline markers.
  • Effectively and safely use hand tools, power tools and portable and mobile work equipment in hazardous, classified, and non-hazardous environments.
  • Maintain facilities, grounds and work areas in a safe, orderly and efficient manner.
  • Locates and temporarily marks pipelines.
  • Communicates with supervision, third parties, and other personnel on job-related situations and matters.
  • Completes routine administrative duties including, but not limited to Reports of Time Worked, Expense Accounts, Mileage Reports and Accident Reports.
  • Maintains good housekeeping practices.
  • Maintains Operator Qualifications required to perform assigned duties.
  • Perform energy isolation lockout/tagout procedures (LOTO).
  • Comply with partnership safety policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate and provide leadership in safety programs and initiatives and follow policies and procedures.
  • Maintain working knowledge of regulatory requirements, perform required tasks, and complete associated documentation (OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.).
  • Coordinate and communicate with outside parties including landowners, public agencies, contractors, utilities, and other pipeline operators.
  • Plan, organize and coordinate over-night travel arrangements utilizing company approved applications
  • Meet requirements for progression through the Repairman classifications.
  • Become a qualified DOT driver to operate larger pool vehicles assigned to the Project Crew

Requirements:
Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Must possess a current driver's license.
  • Candidate must live within 50 miles of the reporting location.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong mechanical background with working knowledge of engines, electric motors, compressors, valves, and work equipment and tools.
  • Physical ability required to perform the essential elements of the position, including shoveling, painting, lifting, working in extreme high and low temperatures, and general manual labor.
  • Able to develop the ability to interpret, use, and follow piping schematics, drawings, maps, and operating procedures.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.
• Driving, walking, and standing frequently.
• Lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Working in an operational setting that may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, which will require appropriate personal protective equipment.
• The position is subject to call-out during off-duty hours, including the weekend.
• The position will require frequent overnight travel.
