Job Summary

The Senior Standards Lab Technician is responsible for leading day-to-day calibration and measurement activities while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and continuous improvement of laboratory operations. This role serves as a technical leader within the lab, driving best practices in calibration, data analysis, and quality systems.

In addition to hands-on responsibilities, the Senior Standards Lab Technician mentors junior staff, supports cross-functional initiatives, and contributes to process improvements aligned with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards. This position is designed for individuals demonstrating readiness to transition into a supervisory or managerial role in the near term.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform complex calibration activities, including measurement, analysis, and reporting of test data with a high degree of accuracy and accountability
  • Own and continuously improve calibration lab procedures and work instructions, including new standard production and recertification processes
  • Oversee the creation, maintenance, and integrity of certifications, calibration records, and the certification database
  • Act as a subject matter expert in ISO 9001:2015 and ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards; ensure lab compliance and support audit readiness
  • Maintain and validate performance of all measurement instruments; implement preventative maintenance and improvement plans
  • Identify, investigate, and escalate irregularities impacting quality, safety, or performance; recommend corrective actions
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior technicians, supporting their technical development and adherence to best practices
  • Coordinate and prioritize lab workload, helping optimize scheduling, resource allocation, and turnaround times
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., Repair, Quality, Operations) to ensure seamless execution of calibration and testing activities
  • Perform and review testing of customer samples to validate measurement techniques and ensure high-quality reporting
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to lab efficiency, data integrity, and measurement accuracy
  • Support implementation of new systems, tools, or technologies (e.g., SAP, database enhancements)
  • Assist leadership in developing KPIs, tracking lab performance metrics, and identifying opportunities for operational improvement
  • Perform other duties assigned, including acting in a leadership capacity when management is unavailable


Qualifications & Skills


  • Associate or bachelorโ€™s degree in a technical or scientific discipline preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in a calibration lab or related technical environment
  • Demonstrated experience with laboratory quality control and measurement instrumentation
  • Experience working within ISO 9001 and/or ISO 17025 environments required
  • Prior experience mentoring or training others strongly preferred
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems preferred
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently while also leading and influencing others
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated initiative and continuous improvement mindset
  • Ability to contribute to strategic discussions and operational planning
