Job description

Position Summary:
The Sanitation Technician plays a critical role in ensuring food safety and operational readiness at Calbee America by thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing all production equipment and facility areas. This position follows strict sanitation protocols using food-grade cleaning agents to support compliance with food safety, quality, and company standards. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and understands the impact of sanitation on food manufacturing.
Responsibilities:
  • Clean and sanitize production areas, including equipment, floors, walls, ceilings, drains, light fixtures, vents, and structural components.
  • Apply cleaning agents and sanitizers using sprayers, hoses, and foaming units.
  • Operate sanitation equipment such as high-pressure hoses, chemical titration tools, and foamers.
  • Disassemble and reassemble equipment for thorough cleaning and inspection.
  • Ensure all equipment passes pre-op inspections and sanitation swab tests before production use.
  • Handle and dilute chemicals according to established safety standards.
  • Protect sensitive components (e.g., control panels, electronics) during cleaning procedures.
  • Complete all required sanitation documentation accurately and on time.
  • Immediately report damaged or missing equipment parts (e.g., blades, O-rings, gaskets, shavings).
  • Support training of new team members on sanitation procedures and safety protocols.
  • Monitor and restock PPE and cleaning supplies as needed.
  • Assist other departments with cleaning tasks and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Overtime and weekend work may be required based on sanitation or production needs.

Food Safety and Regulations:
  • Comply with Calbee, OSHA, FDA, EPA, HACCP, GMP, and SQF sanitation standards.
  • Maintain a clean, safe working environment at all times.
  • Understand and apply Safe Quality Food (SQF) principles.
  • Participate in food safety training and follow all established protocols consistently.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with a proactive approach to cleanliness and food safety.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.
  • Willingness to learn and perform various tasks as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of food manufacturing, sanitation practices, and chemical safety.
  • Competency in using and maintaining sanitation tools and equipment.
  • Basic math, reading, and computer skills.
  • Strong time management and problem-solving abilities.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Work Environment:
  • Food manufacturing environment with exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and food-grade chemicals.
  • Moderate to high noise levels; frequent standing, walking, and physical activity.
  • PPE is required and provided by the company.
