Job description

Job Title: Classroom Assistant

Reports to: Principal  

Employment Status: 10-month

FLSA Status:  Salary

The management services offered to our family of charter schools, allows us to collectively become a change agent and national leader in urban education as evidenced by student awareness of self, high academic achievement, positive school culture and community transformation wherever we serve.      

LOCATION: Northeast Philadelphia (5401 Tabor Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19120)


JOB GOAL:

The Classroom Assistant is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in supporting students to help them accomplish learning benchmarks. The Classroom Assistant will assist in managing classroom behavior and keep students engaged in the lessons. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist class teacher in preparing lessons and teaching aids.
  • Assist class teacher in monitoring the progress of the scholars.
  • Assist with distribution tests and assignments.
  • Attend to the needs of the scholars.
  • Assist with progress reports and record keeping of scholars.
  • Maintain attendance records with class teacher.
  • Organize games and other extracurricular activities.
  • Supervise pupils while in the cafeteria or during field trips.
  • Assist class teacher in grading tests and exams.
  • Collect payments for class trips.
  • Set up and operate audio-visual equipment.
  • Answer non-instructional questions about seat work.
  • Assist scholars engaged in seat work activities while the teacher instructs a small group.
  • Assist with after-school activities, clubs, interest groups, assembly programs, special exhibits, and field trips.
  • Maintain bulletin boards.
  • Perform related work as required.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree or equivalent from an accredited two-year program preferred or Paraprofessional certificate. 
  • Two years of experience working in an urban school environment or managing a large group of students

Additional Experience:

  • Experience working in an urban school environment.
  • Acceptable criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal
     resident alien status.
  • Bring a spirit of enthusiasm, energy, and multi-cultural awareness.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Utilize proper discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
  • Work well without close supervision and with little direction. 
  • Be able to solve problems independently and manage projects alone.
  • Be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
