  • Under general supervision, to assist in the preparation and/or serving of a variety of food in quantity, and to perform related work as required
  • Participates in the more specialized preparation and/or serving of foods, including preparing main dishes and baked goods, vegetables, salads, desserts and other dishes
  • Assists and participates in the operation of the speed-line including preparation and serving various food items
  • Assists in requisitioning, receiving and storing of foods and supplies
  • Estimates quantities of food and supplies required
  • Assists in taking of inventory and completing Daily Worksheet
  • Assists in maintaining proper care of equipment and sanitation of the kitchen
  • Washes dishes and kitchen equipment
  • Serves in operation of assorted equipment - grill and fryer
  • Serves as Point of Service/Cashier

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday (up to 6โ€“8 hours).
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds with assistance or appropriate equipment.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, twist, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle kitchen utensils, food preparation equipment, cleaning tools, and serving implements.
  • Safely operate commercial kitchen equipment, including ovens, steamers, dishwashers, slicers, mixers, and warming units, following established safety procedures.
  • Push and maneuver food carts, supply carts, and other equipment throughout the cafeteria and kitchen.
  • Maintain manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required for food preparation, serving, cleaning, and cash handling (if applicable).
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and coworkers in a busy cafeteria environment.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed primarily in a commercial kitchen and school cafeteria environment.
  • Regular exposure to heat, steam, cold temperatures (walk-in refrigerators and freezers), water, cleaning chemicals, and food odors.
  • Frequent exposure to wet or slippery floors, requiring adherence to safety procedures.
  • Noise levels may range from moderate to loud during meal preparation and service.
  • Position requires adherence to all food safety, sanitation, personal hygiene, and workplace safety standards.
  • May be required to work at multiple school locations or assist with special events as needed.
  • Attendance, punctuality, and reliable transportation are essential to ensure timely meal preparation and service.
