Job description

The Assistant Server - Good Times Café is responsible for supporting the service team by delivering prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable guest service in a fast-paced dining environment. This role assists with seating guests, taking and delivering food and beverage orders, bussing tables, and maintaining a clean and well-stocked workstation to ensure an exceptional dining experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Greets and seats guests promptly with a warm, professional demeanor, ensuring a positive first impression and smooth guest flow.
  • Assists servers by taking and delivering food and beverage orders accurately and efficiently to support seamless service.
  • Provides responsible alcohol service in accordance with ABC regulations, RBS/TIPS training, and internal policies.
  • Serves beverages and food to guests promptly and professionally, ensuring proper presentation and guest satisfaction.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the menu, including ingredients, preparation methods, and presentation standards, to answer guest inquiries confidently.
  • Monitors the dining area throughout service to uphold cleanliness, safety, and presentation standards at all times.
  • Busses, cleans, and resets tables quickly and efficiently to maintain a clean, organized, and inviting dining environment.
  • Restocks and maintains workstation supplies - including utensils, glassware, condiments, and service items - to ensure operational readiness.
  • Adheres to all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines during service, cleaning, and closing procedures.
  • Communicates effectively with guests, team members, and kitchen staff to ensure coordinated, timely service and a positive dining experience.
  • Verifies guest identification to ensure compliance with alcohol service laws and adheres to all ABC regulations, RBS training standards, and internal policies.
  • Performs additional side work and other job-related duties as assigned to support overall operations and service excellence.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance or support to other team members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and maintain a high level of guest service.
  • Professional demeanor, positive attitude, and ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Prior experience in food service or hospitality preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional coursework in hospitality or food service is a plus.
  • Food Handler Certification required or must be obtained upon hire.
  • Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of experience in a food and beverage support role such as busser, runner, or assistant server.
  • Familiarity with table maintenance, food running, and guest service in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to support servers and kitchen staff to ensure timely and accurate service.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Prior experience in a café, casual dining, casino, or resort environment is preferred.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must have successfully completed a background check and obtained a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency, as required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must be able to read and interpret documents in English, such as instructions, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, management, and guests.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate clearly and courteously with guests, servers, kitchen staff, and supervisors; responsible for assisting with guest needs, running food, and supporting overall table service.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Frequently lifts and carries trays, dishes, glassware, and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds; may also assist with restocking service stations or transporting bus tubs.
  • Manual Dexterity: Regularly uses hands and fingers to carry trays, set tables, handle utensils, and assist with beverage and food delivery with accuracy and speed.
  • Mobility: Continuously moves throughout the café, kitchen, and service areas; requires walking, standing, bending, lifting, and reaching for extended periods during shifts.
  • Stationary Work: Rarely remains seated; duties are performed while actively moving to support servers and maintain guest satisfaction.
  • Tool Operation: Occasional use of tray jacks, beverage dispensers, and other basic food service tools as directed by the server or supervisor.
  • Visual Acuity: Requires near vision to monitor guest tables, identify food and beverage orders, and ensure proper table setup and cleanliness.
  • Working Conditions: Routinely works in fast-paced dining and kitchen environments with exposure to food preparation areas, cleaning chemicals, and moderate to high noise levels. Regular exposure to a smoking environment while transitioning through casino or public spaces.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. The casino operates with moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment, requiring team members to work comfortably in these conditions.
WORKING HOURS:
Morongo Casino Resort & Spa operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; therefore, flexibility in scheduling is essential. Team members must be available to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and may include overtime, as well as work on both weekdays and weekends.
