Summary
For over a century, HII has built and maintained the U.S. Navy's most powerful warships. Join us as we continue to maintain the Navy's readiness. Currently, we are seeking a Cableway Technician to join our team! This person will support shipboard cableway and electrical system installations by preparing technical documentation, performing hands-on maintenance, and coordinating daily activities with the cableway team. This position is a full-time role, located in Virginia Beach, VA.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Develops and uses technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.
- Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management.
- Collaborating with cableway shipboard team on day-to-day activities.
- Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.
- Works from blueprints, tech manuals. Receives instructions on semi-routine and difficult assignments.
- Performs all necessary tasks (semi-skilled and unskilled) laboring duties related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of systems and equipment.
- Conducts on-site installation of equipment and follows established testing procedures to ensure proper working order.
What You Must Have
- High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience.
- Must have experience with marine electrical systems.
- Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
- Must have demonstrated competence in Microsoft applications.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain all necessary base credentials.
Bonus Points For
- Thorough knowledge of the installation requirements contained in MIL-STD 2003, NAVSEA 9090-310, NAVSEA Standard Items, and the 9304.1.
- A current, valid DoD Secret security clearance or higher.
- Previously or currently certified with NAVSEA Cableway Program.
- Currently or previously certified in Program Logic controllers.
- Former Navy preferred (EM, IC, ET, FT, FC, IT).
- Certified NAVSEA Cableway inspector with 4 years of experience.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
