Job description

Location: MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL

Clearance: Top Secret; ability to obtain TS/SCI

Job Type: Full-Time

Target Salary Range*: $55,000 - $75,000

*This represents the potential salary range for this position depending on education level, years of experience and/or certifications in addition to other position specific requirements which may impact salary


Position Overview

The Cable Technician will install, terminate, patch, and splice fiber optic cables and copper CAT5/6 Ethernet cables. This role requires the ability to work in an active working environment with little or no disruption to customers.

The Cable Technician will work in a classified secured environment and must be able to obtain up to a Top Secret/SCI clearance.


Key ResponsibilitiesCable Installation and Infrastructure Support
  • Install cabling infrastructure under floors or in ceilings.
  • Patch network cables in Telecommunications Rooms on multiple levels of classifications and networks.
  • Ensure cables are properly labeled and identified.
Cable Testing and Troubleshooting
  • Troubleshoot issues with Link Runner AT2000 cable testers.
  • Complete work orders using the Remedy online system.

QualificationsExperience
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven work experience as a Cable Technician or similar role.
  • Experience installing, terminating, patching, and splicing fiber optic cables and copper CAT5/6 Ethernet cables.
Skills
  • Ability to terminate fiber optic cables of various types, including single-mode and multi-mode OM3.
  • Knowledge of fiber optic color code.
  • Knowledge of fiber optic connectors, including LC, SC, MTRJ, ST, and related connector types.
  • Ability to use an RJ45 crimper and punch-down tool for terminating copper.
  • Knowledge of T568B color code.
  • Ability to work in an active working environment with little or no disruption to customers.
Clearance
  • Active Top Secret DoD clearance, with willingness and ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.
Other Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Must have a valid passport with expiration greater than 6 months.
  • Must be willing to travel CONUS and OCCONUS up to 10% each year.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to work under floors and on ladders on a daily basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • BICSI certifications are preferred.
