Overview

The role of the Cable Design/Implementation Engineering Manager is to provide management, leadership, direction and logistical support to Network Service Towers and Service Delivery based teams. This leadership and direction come in many forms, technical, decision making and strategic vision.

This position will interface directly with internal and external customers/suppliers; Network Services, architecture, engineering, product / project management, Data Center Services, Storage, Real Estate and Operations teams. They will also work with various design/implementation teams (Facilities / MEP), change management, finance and business management. At times, they may interface with various levels of senior management. Strong written, verbal and presentation skills are a must. The candidate must be able to work on their own and in team settings of various sizes and in different locations.

The design and engineering part of the role is to manage and provide both technical design and engineering services and oversee other cable design engineers (i.e. Engineers, RCDD, etc.) supporting all structured cabling, technology room/raised floor efforts, backbone/riser and lateral distribution systems. Direct areas of responsibilities include estimates and scope development, design / create design documents, create bid documents, bid analysis, develop and administer RFPs, field surveys and validation of as-built drawings. The Cable Design and Engineering Delivery Manager has a knowledge and understanding of building codes and regulations, participates/oversees the project portfolio they/their team is assigned to. Baseline knowledge of Networking, Data Center and User/Office/AV/Security/IOT technologies is a plus. This role is part of a global solutions and service delivery organization.

The Field Services, Labor and Contractor management part of the role provides and is responsible for the labor, resources, material management; logistics, and delivery of the Field Services responsibilities and service which includes cable implementation, onsite and dispatched technical and "hand and feet" labor supporting Incidents, Requests (REQs) and BAU projects. The role focuses on supporting a variety Global Technology and LOB demand and has a deep understanding of technology and cable/cable infrastructure management, labor and organized labor management principles, logistics, quality and financial management and is able to tackle complex problems with innovative solutions. Critical to this role is the ability to use various levels of data to rationalize actions that optimizes the service and creates multi-level efficiencies. Manages and tracks contractor and supplier relationships.

The Cable Design and Engineering Delivery Manager manages RCDD/Cable Engineers who are considered a subject matter expert in their field and are expected to stay current with various technologies, maintain industry certifications, support organizational goals and understand industry trends to drive value. The Cable Design and Engineering Delivery Manager is responsible to maintain, update and govern the firm's Cable Design Standards in accordance with the firm's formal standards, regulatory, compliance and audit framework. This is done based upon the firm's technology and real estate roadmaps, industry trends and in partnership leading an internal SME working group (known as a "Cable Engineering Product Cabinet"). The Cable Design and Engineering Delivery Manager's role supports Cable Design and third-party labor as a Network Services formal "Product" and will be governed by formal Network Services product standards.

  • Serves as a consultant on a broad range of technologies, platforms, and vendor offerings to drive targeted business outcomes
  • Develops software solutions to address manual and repeatable work or inefficient processes and contributes to the technology strategy for end-to-end engineering solutions and provides feedback to the architecture teams
  • Translates business requirements into technical definitions, reference models, blueprints, and playbooks for deployment in compliance with architecture standards and policies
  • Participates in various steering committees for technical and infrastructure service domains
  • Leads the evaluation of reference models, blueprints and playbooks to ensure they are fit for purpose
  • Mentors and guides team members to ensure system design technology solutions comply with enterprise system design and engineering standards

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years' experience working with structured cabling services supporting various environments (Networking, Data Center and User/Office/AV/Security/IOT technologies) and services
  • Candidate must have solid and demonstrated experience in developing solutions and services aligned to business requirements that utilize department's standards, product sets, industry information, templates, systems and artifacts
  • Engineering management: manage and direct a team of cable designers, engineering, RCDDs (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) to facilitate the goals, objectives and function of the team
  • Must be able to communicate structured cabling standards to partners, stakeholders and lines of business. Participate in project-related interviews and discovery with lines of business and other technology design team members. Must be able to translate business requirements into functional technology requirements
  • Must adhere and participate in and with design standards and global design authority processes and procedures. Must be expert in standard business tools/applications including AutoCAD
  • Must have the ability to liaise with 3rd parties and provide representation in developing optimum solutions and ratifying designs
  • Must be able to interface with General Contractors, MEP Engineering and Architectural firms
  • This role oversees Communications Construction Management (CCM), cabling contractor activities, providing direction to address site-specific construction issues
  • Participates in all aspects of the infrastructure acceptance process. Provides support to technology project managers during adoption of the new cable systems, Technology spaces and infrastructure
Desired Qualifications
  • Must provide quality assurance throughout the entire, end to end project lifecycle. Is responsible for the quality of the service outputs of the work
  • The ability to assemble professional documents based on existing templates, ability to provide accurate job descriptions with needed hours for completion. Must create budgets and estimates. Must understand project delivery lifecycle management, the concept of a Detailed Design, Test and Certification methodologies, Risk Assessment / Mitigation and Validation plans and procedures
  • Must maintain and adhere to department policies in conjunction with the service delivery function (asset tracking, inventories, chargeback, documentation and the related systems, tools and processes)
  • Varied experience in multi-vendor solutions (various infrastructure systems and manufacturers, primarily Corning and CommScope) is required
  • Knowledge of Audio Visual and Security infrastructure cabling, systems and distribution is a plus
  • Must be able to participate in, establish technical testing criteria to industry best practices. Must be able to operate test gear to complete such tasks
  • Run the service as a formal "Network Services Product." Duties include developing a service vision and roadmap, regularly solicit feedback from stakeholder groups, participates in new technology development and product approval processes that impact / depend on your service, P & L, and charge-back owner of your service(s), develops / manages RFI / RFPs for baseline services. Negotiates / executes / maintains contracts for your service. Manages tracks and scores suppliers / supplier performance, performs service planning and service level management. Manages product lifecycle and asset management
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, related field and or technical training. Must have strong analytical skills. RCDD certification not required but preferred. Management experience is required

Pay and benefits information

Pay range: $151,500.00 - $185,000.00 annualized salary, offers to be determined based on experience, education and skill set.

Discretionary incentive eligible: This role is eligible to participate in the annual discretionary plan.
