Job description

Leapros Skilled Trades is actively hiring Data Center Technician (Ft. Wayne, IN) in Ft. Wayne, IN. The Level 3 Data Center Technician will support a large-scale fiber project in Ft. Wayne, IN, focusing on extensive patching and bundled fiber installations. The ideal candidate possesses expert-level fiber skills and the ability to maintain high organizational standards in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $30 to $32 Per Hour BOE

Responsibilities:

  • Execute complex fiber patching operations from patch panel to patch panel and patch panel to device.
  • Support large-scale deployments involving the installation and management of bundled fiber systems.
  • Perform device-to-device fiber connectivity tasks following strict project specifications.
  • Ensure precise cable routing and organization within high-density data center racks.
  • Adhere to project schedules while working assigned 2nd shift (3pm - 11pm) or 3rd shift (11pm - 7am) rotations.
  • Utilize organizational skills to manage high-volume patching requirements without compromising quality.
  • Follow all site-specific safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Collaborate with project leads to ensure fiber infrastructure meets technical performance standards.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in data center technician roles or advanced structured cabling.
  • Advanced proficiency in fiber optic installation, patching, and cable management.
  • Specific experience working on large-scale projects involving bundled fiber and high-density patching.
  • Must own and provide over-the-ankle, ESD-rated composite toe safety boots.
  • Availability to work required shifts, including late evenings or overnight schedules.
  • Strong technical aptitude for hardware and device connectivity within a data center environment.
  • Proven ability to work independently while maintaining a high productivity rate.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills for documenting and routing fiber paths.

Physical Requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to climb and work from ladders frequently.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and bend for the duration of an 8-hour shift.
  • Manual dexterity to handle delicate fiber optic cables and small connectors.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in confined or restricted spaces commonly found in data center environments.
  • Visual acuity to distinguish cable colors and read small labels accurately.
