Mechanical Specialties Contractors is a leader in the fabrication and installation of high purity and process piping systems and specialty components (valve manifold boxes, gas sticks, gas cabinets, modular skids, vacuum pump spools, tool retrofits, purified gas supplies, and orbital welding), providing custom solutions and meeting the virtual zero-tolerance requirements of high-performance industries such as Pharmaceutical, Life Science, Semiconductor and Institutional customers.  Service offerings include: hygienic process piping, gas distribution systems, clean steam systems, purified water systems, high purity piping, plumbing, exhaust systems, water treatment systems, service utilities, and equipment setting.

Due to recent growth, Mechanical Specialties Contractors is seeking Combo Pipe Welders responsible for fabrication and welding process piping components.  The strongest candidate will have experience working with Carbon and Stainless-Steel Pipe.  This position will work on projects in and near the Raleigh/Durham area and candidates must live within a daily reasonable commuting distance.

Key Duties:

  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings
  • Weld piping joints of the mostly Stainless Steel and some Carbon using TIG process
  • Cut and prepare all tubing and fittings using portable band saw, tubing cutters, facing tools and other hand tools.
  • Visual inspect welds for face and root reinforcement, cracks, inclusion and porosity.
  • Document welds on weld logs, ISO’s and weld maps using GMP.
  • Assist in pipe fitting, pipe supports and installation
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years Industrial Process Pipe fitting and TIG welding
  • Ability to pass 6-G certification test
  • Ability to Tack weld .065 wall SS tube
  • Experience with installation of stainless-steel and/or carbon process piping systems.
  • Ability to follow established procedures to setup and operate TIG welding equipment.
  • Understand and use Isometric drawings and P&iD’s to install piping and equipment.
  • Experience using measuring equipment (tape measure, framing square, straight edge, calipers, laser level).
  • Knowledge of detailing and design is a plus.
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
  • Work in a team environment with high safety and quality standards.
  • Excellent organization, communication, customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Scheduling and time management skills.
