A cabinet finisher completes the final touches to cabinets, such as sanding and varnishing, to make them ready for installation. As a cabinet finisher, you use a variety of tools to brush, stain, paint, and seal cabinets. Cabinets are typically made of metal, wood, or plastic, so cabinet finishers must be proficient with different types of materials. Other duties include putting lacquer on the cabinets, color-matching the top coat of the cabinets to ensure uniformity, and creating custom designs on the cabinets.

What does a cabinet finisher do?

A Cabinet Finisher is responsible for applying stains, paints, varnishes, and other finishes to wooden cabinets and furniture. They prepare surfaces by sanding, cleaning, and sometimes repairing imperfections before applying the chosen finish. Cabinet Finishers must pay close attention to detail to ensure a smooth, even, and durable result that enhances the appearance and longevity of the cabinetry. Their work is essential in both residential and commercial settings to achieve a high-quality, professional look.

What skills do you need to be a cabinet finisher?

To thrive as a Cabinet Finisher, you need strong woodworking skills, attention to detail, and experience with various finishing techniques, often supported by a high school diploma or vocational training.
