Overview

CTG is seeking to fill a Mainframe Utilities Developer position for our client.

Location: Phoenix, AZ metro area (Hybrid working model)
Duration: 6 months with option to convert after 6 months
Citizenship: US Citizens (USC), Permanent Residents (PR), and Other EAD holders (no visa-dependent candidates)

Job Summary:
Mainframe Utilities Developer responsible for designing, developing, and supporting utility programs and automation tools in IBM z/OS environments. This role focuses on batch processing efficiency, data manipulation, job automation, and operational support tooling across enterprise mainframe systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain mainframe utilities using COBOL, JCL, REXX, Easytrieve, and DB2 SQL
  • Build automation tools for batch job processing, file manipulation, data transformation, and reporting
  • Support and enhance existing mainframe operational toolsets and scripts
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in batch and utility processing environments
  • Optimize batch performance and reduce job run times and processing windows
  • Support scheduling and workload automation tools (Control-M, CA7, TWS)
  • Work with change management and debugging tools (Endevor, Changeman, File-AID, Abend-AID)
  • Collaborate with system programmers, DBAs, and application teams
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise standards, audit, and security requirements
  • Participate in production support and on-call rotations
  • Document technical solutions, procedures, and runbooks

Required Skills:

  • COBOL, JCL, REXX, Easytrieve, DB2 SQL
  • IBM z/OS mainframe utilities and batch processing
  • Batch automation and performance tuning
  • Scheduling tools: Control-M / CA7 / TWS
  • Change management tools: Endevor / Changeman
  • Debugging tools: File-AID / Abend-AID
  • Strong production support and troubleshooting experience

Experience:
5+ years of experience in mainframe utilities development, systems support, or IBM z/OS environments.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
