Job description

Hiring Various Skill Levels and Shifts, Need Mobile Technician, Level A, Level B and Level C

  • First Shift:  6:30 AM to 3:00 PM
  • First Shift:  7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
  • First Shift:  7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
  • First Shift:  8:00 AM to 4:30 PM


Job Summary:
The Tractor Trailer Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of semi-trailers to ensure they are safe, efficient, and roadworthy. Primary duties of this role include diagnosing a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and structural issues, repairing or replacing damaged components, and providing expert recommendations on trailer upkeep. The Trailer 
Technician uses specialized tools and equipment to perform major repairs on various trailer types, such as air brake repairs, suspension adjustments, electrical wiring, and axle wheel assemblies. Success in this role requires in-depth technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, a strong knowledge of trailer systems, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. This position is safety sensitive.
Duties/Responsibilities: 


  • Independently diagnose and repair various trailer components, including electrical wiring, roofs, panels, upper couplers, and rear door frames
  • Troubleshoot and repair all aspects of air braking systems including ABS
  • Troubleshoot and repair all aspects of spring and air ride suspensions, with an understanding of height control valves and manual and automatic dump valves
  • Using proper torque procedures, complete axle wheel assemblies including proper installation of hub and drum assemblies, bearings, seals, and races
  • Troubleshoot and repair all aspects of electrical wiring systems, including all lights, 7-way receptacles, interior lighting and switches
  • Diagnose and repair body and undercarriage damage on all trailer types, ranging from small panel replacements to complex structural repairs
  • Perform diagnoses and maintenance on refrigeration units
  • Perform preventative maintenance, which includes maintaining proper oil levels in hubcaps, ensuring proper air pressure in tires, greasing all fittings, ensuring proper adjustments on S-cam brakes, and performing minor light repairs and replacements
  • Provide guidance, support, and training to Level B and C technicians and trainees
  • Provide expertise on complex repairs and recommend long-term solutions for recurring issues
  • Complete work orders in accordance with SOPs
  • Accurately document all work performed and parts listed
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development
  • Adhere to all safety standards and SOPs during all repair activities, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and hearing protection


Required Skills/Abilities:  


  • Mechanical expertise and advanced technical skills
  • Strong understanding of tools and specialized equipment used in trailer maintenance
  • Proven ability to independently perform complex repairs
  • Advanced carpentry, welding, and/or fabrication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of trailer systems
  • Strong understanding of DOT regulations
  • Basic proficiency with computer systems
  • Safety awareness
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail


Education/Experience:


  • Five or more years of trailer maintenance and repair experience and/or training
  • Experience in the trailer/transportation industry


Supervisory Responsibilities: 


  • None


Physical Requirements:


  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and crawling in confined spaces
  • Manual dexterity to operate hand and power tools
  • Ability to work at heights using lifts and ladders
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds


Work Environment:


  • Repair shop and outdoor environment
  • Regular exposure to outside weather conditions
  • Exposure to loud noise, vibration, dust, grease or oil, and fumes or airborne particle
