About the position and site:  Advanced Laser Systems Technology (ALST) has an immediate opening for a Lead, Business Unit Manager in Orlando, Florida and is part of Intelligent Manufacturing Solutions (IMS) which is headquartered in Londonderry, NH. JOB SUMMARY

The business unit manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of all departments within a defined unit. This role is responsible for overseeing and directing the activities of the business unit including planning, engineering, marketing, financial planning and manufacturing. This role is responsible for business results (income statement, meeting annual plan and growth in the value for a business). The scope of this position includes leadership of a cross functional business unit team (sales, operations, engineering, quality), new business generation, proposal preparation, bookings (orders), Profit and Loss accountability, developing and maintaining customer relationships, establishing the yearly business plan, overseeing operating activities to ensure good customer service and cost objectives are met, contract negotiation among other business-related duties.


COMPLEXITY & PROBLEM SOLVING

Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires conceptual thinking and an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives. Problems are not clearly defined and lack strategic direction. Implements policies and select methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Drives the strategy and success of larger projects which contribute to multiple areas of the organization. This role may work on complex issues where problems are not clearly defined and where fundamental principles do not fully apply. Translates business segment strategy into functional plans and guides execution. Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people. Ensures budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.


LEADERSHIP

This role has overall leadership of the business unit and reports to the VP or higher-level executive and supervises directors, managers or other supervised roles. This role requires advanced leadership management skills with the ability to manage multiple departments and disciplines to lead organizational initiatives. The business unit manager is a self-starter with experience with entrepreneurial spirit, results oriented and drives performance for short- and long-term goals. This manager has a bias for action, exhibits a sense of urgency, critical and problem-solving skills while also providing leadership influence and a collective sense of purpose. There is an ownership of data driven results, ability to prioritize and lead by example culturally and professionally while taking ownership of productivity and unit performance. This manager has a strong business acumen and communicates effectively for all-round business success and leadership strength. This role may also direct the activities of a functional area or multiple integrated departments through lower management, while leading teams to develop new methods and solve complex matters. Accountable for actions that impact function or multiple department budgets.

Sales and Product Accountability

Drive consistent value creation through value-based pricing, profitable new business, and productivity

Develop positive relationships with customers

Responsible for Contract review and negotiations

Develop relationships at new business accounts while maintaining long standing relationships with distributors, end users and -Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM's) 

Sell the value of products and influence customer's decision to purchase 

Determine and implement strategic and/or tactical plans to win profitable new business 

Negotiate sales and marketing contractual commitments with OEM's and end users 

Travel will be global and include OEM meetings, distributor meetings, sales, events such as trade shows, customer site visits with either salesman or distributors, and corporate meetings.

Represent IMS at trade shows, conventions and seminars to maintain customer contact, increase brand exposure, and publicize new products and services. 


Financial Accountability

Prepare and execute a comprehensive Annual Business Unit Operating Plan

Responsible for achieving bookings, sales and EBITDA objectives;

Provide weekly and monthly sales reports to management

Develop and present Quarterly business reviews to executive management

Focuses on details of value creation, ie; value based pricing, continual cost improvement, and identifying profitable new business opportunities, market analysis 


Business Unit Productivity

Manage a team of direct reports in the business unit 

Lead a cross-functional Business Unit Team

Implement initiatives to continuously improve team responsiveness to customer / business needs

Develop and execute a Business Unit strategy resulting in year over year margin growth

Develop a performance -oriented work environment with high accountability

Guides a team of sales personnel, engineers and manufacturing personnel to create real intrinsic value through improved Productivity in all functional areas

Perform other duties as may be assigned

Requirements

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in business or higher at an accredited university or college, and a minimum of 8 years' experience with relevant competencies in manufacturing, business administration, strategic planning and leadership development with increasing responsibilities with leading cross-functional teams. Must have ability to travel 25-40% and prior experience in leading teams for 5 years or longer. Technical degrees in relevant areas of manufacturing preferred but not required.
