What does a business solutions architect do?

They analyze business needs, develop technical architectures, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure solutions are effective, scalable, and aligned with business processes. Strong communication, technical expertise, and knowledge of tools like cloud platforms and enterprise systems are essential for this role.

What is a Business Solution Architect?

A Business Solution Architect is a professional who designs and oversees the implementation of technology and business solutions that align with an organization's strategic goals. They work closely with stakeholders to understand business processes and challenges, then develop solutions that integrate people, processes, and technology. Their role bridges the gap between business needs and IT capabilities, ensuring that new solutions are both technically feasible and deliver real business value. Business Solution Architects often create roadmaps, set standards, and guide project teams throughout the solution development lifecycle.

Is Solution Architect a high paying job?

A Business Solution Architect is generally considered a well-paying role, especially with experience and industry certifications such as TOGAF or AWS. Salaries vary by location, company size, and expertise, but it is often among the higher-paying positions in IT and business consulting fields.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Business Solution Architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Business Solution Architect, you need a solid understanding of business processes, enterprise architecture frameworks, and relevant industry experience, often supported by a degree in business, IT, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like TOGAF, BPMN, ERP/CRM systems, and certifications such as TOGAF or AWS Certified Solutions Architect are typically required. Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills help you translate business needs into effective technology solutions. These skills and qualities are crucial for aligning IT strategies with organizational goals and delivering value-driven outcomes.

Is Solution Architect replaced by AI?

A Business Solution Architect designs and oversees technology solutions to meet business needs, and while AI can automate certain tasks, it does not replace the strategic planning, stakeholder communication, and complex problem-solving skills required in this role. AI tools may assist in data analysis and system design, but human expertise remains essential for architecture decisions and implementation. Continuous learning and understanding of emerging technologies are important for Solution Architects to stay relevant.

Are business architects in demand?

They are valued for their skills in process modeling, enterprise architecture frameworks, and strategic planning, often requiring certifications like TOGAF or Zachman. How does a Business Solution Architect typically collaborate with stakeholders during the project lifecycle?

Business Solution Architects play a pivotal role in bridging business needs and technical solutions. They regularly engage with stakeholders—including business leaders, project managers, and technical teams—to gather requirements, clarify objectives, and ensure proposed solutions align with organizational goals. Throughout the project lifecycle, they facilitate workshops, present architecture diagrams, and adapt plans based on feedback to ensure all parties remain aligned and informed. This collaborative approach helps prevent miscommunication and ensures the delivered solution is both technically feasible and business-relevant.

Job description

Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster, and more securely.
We are transforming the legal experience for all by bettering the lives of legal professionals while increasing access to justice.
Summary:
We are currently seeking a Senior Business Solution Architect to join our Customer Team in New York City. We're looking for someone who combines a deep understanding of their domain with a passion for solving problems, creating value, and pushing beyond what's expected.
What your team does:
Clio Operate (formerly ShareDo) is a cutting-edge adaptive work management platform that empowers large law firms to develop tailored solutions for managing their work processes through the cloud. With our platform, firms can easily build a CMS that works for each legal department's unique needs, allowing them to manage more cases with the same resources, improve profitability, and deliver a market-leading client experience.
What you'll work on:
  • Designing and implementing solutions by mapping client requirements to the ShareDo platform through structured discovery
  • Configuring workflows, forms, and templates in a low-code environment while coaching clients on self-sufficiency
  • Leading delivery across the implementation lifecycle, ensuring timelines and estimates are met
  • Owning and evolving a specific solution area, defining best practices and driving innovation
  • Enhancing accelerators (system modules) based on feedback, trends, and implementation insights
  • Advising on enterprise architecture, integrations, and data models to support scalable solutions
  • Recommending integration and data strategies aligned with system maintainability and growth
  • Influencing product direction by feeding client insights into the roadmap
  • Supporting adoption through mentoring, training, and proactive engagement
  • Contributing to pre-sales through demos and prototypes that showcase ShareDo's capabilities
  • Travel to client sites and cross functional meetings (~20%)

What you bring:
  • Deep subject matter expertise in a commercial domain (e.g., legal process, insurance, corporate law), with a clear vision of best practices and a drive for continuous improvement
  • A hands-on, delivery-focused mindset, with the ability to dive into configuration details and take ownership of end-to-end solution delivery
  • Strong consultative skills, with demonstrated experience engaging senior stakeholders, leading workshops, and aligning business value with delivery priorities
  • Technical fluency in low-code environments, with a solid understanding of system architecture and integrations, even if you're not a developer
  • A client-focused approach to change management, with a passion for driving real-world outcomes through training, mentoring, and sustained engagement
  • Demonstrate a keen interest in improving your craft by using AI

What you will find here:
Compensation is one of the main components of Clio's Total Rewards Program. We have developed a series of programs and processes to ensure we are creating fair and competitive pay practices that form the foundation of our human and high-performing culture.
Some highlights of our Total Rewards program include:
  • Competitive, equitable salary with top-tier health benefits, dental, and vision insurance
  • Hybrid work environment, with expectation for local Clions (Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Dublin and Sydney) to be in office minimum twice per week.
  • Flexible time off policy, with an encouraged 20 days off per year.
  • EAP benefits for you and household members, including counseling and online resources
  • 401k matching and Child Education Savings
  • Clioversary recognition program with special acknowledgement at 3, 5, 7, and 10 years

The expected salary range* for this role is $136,000 to $160,000 to $184,000 USD. There are a separate set of salary bands for other regions based on local currency.
*Our salary bands are designed to reflect the range of skills and experience needed for the position and to allow room for growth at Clio.
