Risk Manager

As part of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), you will work with talented associates to ensure our businesses effectively adhere to Capital One's Risk Management Framework. This role focuses on the intersection of process management and risk management, where a robust process hierarchy serves as the foundation for risk identification and assessment.

As a Risk Manager, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining an enterprise-wide process hierarchy governance framework. You will work to improve business efficiency and drive results by building the universal "language" of our business functions while collaborating with first-line leaders to influence results that directly impact the company's bottom line. You will bring a rigorous, curious, and creative perspective to help maintain a sustainable and holistic process for identifying, managing, and reporting risks aligned to the hierarchy..

General Responsibilities
  • Process Governance: Implement and maintain the process management lifecycle, ensuring the enterprise process hierarchy aligns with industry standards and our unique business model.

  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with first-line of defense contacts and key stakeholders to gain buy-in for the process hierarchy and ensure appropriate execution across business units.

  • Risk Assessment Support: Ensure the process hierarchy is structured to allow risk owners to aggregate data and view exposure at the process, business unit, or division level.

  • Reporting and Analysis: Create, edit, and manage multiple facets of risk reporting, providing real-time visibility into process health and risk exposure for leadership.

  • Governance Framework: Establish standards and metadata requirements for business processes to ensure consistency across global business lines.

  • Audit and Compliance Support: Deliver materials requested in audits and exams and support risk teams with ad-hoc deliverables and investigations.

  • Process Improvement: Initiate and execute process improvements that save time and resources while maintaining data integrity through established benchmarks.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

  • At least 5 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients

  • At least 3 years of experience in Risk Management or Process Management

  • At least 3 years of experience in Project Management

  • At least 1 year of Financial Services Risk Management Experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience in Process Management utilizing Lean Six Sigma or Agile

  • 3+ years of Financial Services Risk Management Experience

  • 3+ years of experience with Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) software

  • Certified Risk Manager (CRM) or PMP certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400 for Risk Manager


Richmond, VA: $138,100 - $157,700 for Risk Manager


Riverwoods, IL: $138,100 - $157,700 for Risk Manager









Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
