Job Title: Manager, Business Efficiency & Automation

Reports To: Vice President, Engineering

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Manager, Business Efficiency & Automation

to coordinate and deliver technology initiatives that improve operational efficiency, customer experience, and business performance. This role manages assigned technology solutions from planning through implementation, partners with business and technical stakeholders, and supports the department's broader technology roadmap. The ideal candidate will bring practical technical knowledge, strong project and people-management skills, and a track record of delivering cross-functional technology projects. The Manager will oversee assigned improvements to GIS, engineering, and closeout platforms and support responsible AI and automation initiatives.

Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):

Technology Planning & Execution

  • Support the implementation of technology plans aligned with department and company priorities
  • Assess division technology needs and recommend practical improvements
  • Contribute to annual technology and AI planning with milestones and measurable outcomes
  • Prepare project updates, ROI analysis, and recommendations for the Vice President and business stakeholders

Solution Architecture & Implementation

  • Coordinate the design and delivery of technology solutions addressing division and customer needs
  • Evaluate software, cloud services, and infrastructure options and recommend solutions within approved standards
  • Manage assigned solutions from requirements through implementation and ongoing improvement

GIS, Engineering Tools & Closeout

  • Manage assigned modernization, integration, and simplification projects for GIS, engineering design, and field closeout platforms.
  • Assess current tools and workflows, document requirements, and coordinate approved platform implementations, consolidations, and retirements.
  • Coordinate with operational stakeholders to improve field adoption, data quality, closeout efficiency, and compliance with technology standards.

AI & Technology

  • Support responsible AI governance and coordinate cross-functional adoption activities under established policies.
  • Implement approved AI and automation initiatives that improve productivity, quality, and decision-making.
  • Identify and coordinate pilots for AI, geospatial, and intelligent quality-control capabilities, and recommend next steps based on measurable value.

Team Management

  • Supervise, coach, and develop a small team of technology professionals
  • Set individual and team goals, monitor performance, and support professional development
  • Governance & Cost Management
  • Prepare cost-benefit analyses for proposed technology investments
  • Track and report on assigned technology budgets, vendor costs, and project benefits
  • Follow and support cybersecurity, data governance, and technology standards

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of technology or IT experience, including at least 2 years in a people-management or team-lead role
  • 2+ years of experience supporting solution architecture and technology implementation
  • Proven track record delivering complex technology projects on time and within budget
  • Experience supervising technical staff or leading small cross-functional project teams
  • Working knowledge of solution architecture, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), and modern software development practices
  • Understanding of cybersecurity, data governance, and compliance frameworks (HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2, etc.)
  • Experience with database management, API integrations, and enterprise application platforms
  • Demonstrated team supervision, coaching, and performance-management skills
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience tracking project budgets, vendor costs, and financial benefits
  • Problem-solving and decision-making under pressure
  • Project management and stakeholder coordination skills
  • Vendor management and negotiation skills
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid)

Required Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business, or related field
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect, PMP, ITIL, or equivalent relevant certification (Preferred)
