Job description

Business Development Manager

Location: Massachusetts / New Hampshire

The Opportunity

We are partnering with a high-growth, PE-backed semiconductor and electronic components business that is expanding its commercial team across the US. The company operates at the intersection of electronic components distribution, digital supply chain solutions, and high-reliability customer support, helping OEMs, CMs, and technology-led businesses source critical components in complex, fast-moving markets.

This is a high-impact Business Development Manager role focused on opening and growing a defined Southeast US territory. The position is ideal for a true hunter: someone who is energized by creating new relationships, generating RFQ activity, reactivating dormant accounts, and building long-term commercial value across a multi-state region.

The company has strong momentum, a differentiated market proposition, and backing that supports continued growth. For the right candidate, this is an opportunity to join a scaling platform where you can have visible territory ownership, meaningful autonomy, and a direct impact on GP growth.

The Role

As Business Development Manager, you will own new business development across a defined Southeast US territory, with particular focus on developing new customer relationships, reactivating lapsed accounts, and expanding underpenetrated markets.

You will inherit a partial book of warm accounts, including some customers with historical RFQ activity, but this is not a maintenance or farming role. The business is looking for someone who can win new customers, create momentum, and keep moving. Once accounts are landed and quoting activity begins, day-to-day transactional management will transition to the account management team, allowing you to remain focused on strategic growth and new opportunity creation.

This is a field-led role requiring regular in-person customer engagement and territory travel. The successful candidate should be genuinely comfortable spending significant time on the road building relationships across multiple cities and states.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own net-new customer prospecting and acquisition across the Southeast US territory
  • Reactivate dormant or underdeveloped accounts and convert them into active RFQ-generating customers
  • Build strategic relationships with senior stakeholders across target accounts
  • Map the territory, prioritize accounts, and build a clear multi-city coverage plan
  • Develop in-person relationships with customers, prospects, and relevant distribution partners
  • Create customer introductions, meetings, RFQ activity, and long-term GP growth
  • Expand account relationships beyond the initial point of contact
  • Identify opportunities across high-reliability, industrial, compute, and transportation-related customer segments
  • Remain strategically engaged after account handover, while continuing to hunt for new opportunities
  • Partner closely with internal account management, sourcing, quoting, and leadership teams

Target Markets

The Southeast territory offers significant white-space opportunity, particularly across high-reliability customer segments.

Priority verticals include:

  • Military and aerospace
  • Industrial
  • Compute
  • Automotive and transportation, where relevant

Experience in military or aerospace accounts would be highly valuable, particularly where the candidate already has transferable customer relationships. However, candidates with strong industrial, compute, or broader electronic components relationships will also be considered.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for a commercially driven business development professional with strong electronic components market knowledge and a proven ability to open doors.

You will likely bring:

  • 4 to 10 years of sales or business development experience in electronic components
  • Background in franchised distribution, independent distribution, broker, or supplier-side sales
  • A strong network of customer relationships across the Southeast US
  • Proven experience opening net-new accounts or reactivating dormant customers
  • Strong understanding of component distribution, supply chain challenges, RFQs, pricing, sourcing, and margin-sensitive selling
  • Confidence engaging senior stakeholders, including procurement, supply chain, engineering, operations, and C-suite contacts
  • A genuine hunter mentality and desire to keep building new business
  • Demonstrated history of field sales, territory travel, and in-person customer development
  • Ability to operate with autonomy across a multi-state territory
  • Valid driverโ€™s license and passport

Highly Attractive Experience

The strongest candidates may also bring:

  • Existing military or aerospace customer relationships
  • Experience selling into high-reliability or complex approval-cycle environments
  • Relationships across Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, or Louisiana
  • Experience with ERP, CRM, or customer profiling tools
  • Familiarity with structured sales methodologies such as Miller Heiman, Challenger, or Sandler
  • A track record of building territory plans and converting whitespace into active business
  • Experience working closely with account managers after new customer acquisition

What Makes This Role Attractive

This is a strong opportunity for a sales professional who wants more than a narrow account management seat.

You will be joining a growing, PE-backed business with a clear appetite to expand its US customer base. The company has an established platform, existing customer activity, and significant undeveloped territory still to capture. The role offers autonomy, visibility, and the ability to shape a meaningful region rather than simply inherit and maintain a static book.

You will have the ability to:

  • Own and build a strategically important Southeast US territory
  • Leverage existing warm accounts while still having major whitespace to pursue
  • Focus on hunting, relationship development, and strategic account opening rather than order administration
  • Sell into technically sophisticated and mission-critical customer segments
  • Join a business with growth backing and strong momentum in the electronic components market
  • Partner with internal account management support so you can stay focused on new business development

Location & Travel

The candidate should be based in or adjacent to the Southeast US territory, with the ability to travel regularly across a multi-state region.

Expected travel is approximately 40% to 50%, primarily for customer meetings, territory development, and strategic relationship building.

Who This Is Not For

This role is unlikely to suit candidates who:

  • Prefer account management over new business development
  • Want to stay close to existing accounts rather than continually opening new ones
  • Require a commission-heavy or uncapped commission structure
  • Are unwilling to travel regularly
  • Lack electronic components, semiconductor, distribution, or supplier-side market experience
  • Do not have relevant customer relationships in the target geography

Please reach out to renz@per-international.com for more details or to express interest in the role.
