About this Role

The Cost Control Manager is responsible for the financial oversight of capital engineering and construction projects, ensuring accurate cost forecasting, budget adherence, and timely reporting throughout the project lifecycle.  This role partners with project management, engineering, procurement, and finance teams to protect project profitability and provide leadership with clear visibility into cost performance.   

What You'll Do
  • Track project costs and maintain cost control systems
  • Assist with budget updates and cost forecasting
  • Monitor commitments, invoices, and accruals
  • Identify cost variances and support corrective action planning
  • Maintain accurate cost documentation and records
  • Perform additional duties as required
  • Develop and maintain project cost baselines, forecasts, and budgets across full project lifecycle
  • Track actual costs against budget, analyze variances, and report trends to project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Implement and maintain cost control systems, including work breakdown structures (WBS), cost codes, and earned value management (EVM).
  • Prepare monthly cost reports and cash flow forecasts for capital projects.
  • Review and validate change orders, contractor pay applications, and invoices for cost impact.
  • Collaborate with project controls, scheduling, and procurement teams to align cost and schedule performance.
  • Identify cost risks and opportunities early, and recommend corrective actions to keep projects within budget.
  • Support estimating teams during project development with historical cost data and benchmarking.
  • Ensure compliance with company financial policies, contract terms, and accounting standards (e.g., percentage-of-completion).
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • 10+ years of experience in cost control, project controls, or cost engineering on large capital projects (construction, energy, infrastructure, or industrial preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of cost estimating methods, EVM, WBS development, and cost/schedule integration.
  • Experience with JD Edwards (JDE) EnterpriseOne, particularly job cost, procurement, and financial modules.
  • Exposure to earned value concepts or cost/schedule integration
  • Strong knowledge of cost estimating methods, EVM, WBS development, and cost/schedule integration.
  • Proficiency with project controls software (Ecosys) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with contract structures, change management, and contractor invoice review.
