Job description

**This is a 6-month contract role with the hopes for long term hire with one of our clients. This is a hybrid role out of Bloomington, MN with in office requirements Tuesday & Thursday. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.**
Summary
Our client is seeking a contract Business Analyst / Technical Writer to partner with a business line in documenting end-to-end processes and building a centralized Process & Procedure (P&P) repository. This role combines business analysis, technical writing, and process improvement, requiring a detail-oriented professional who can uncover how the business operates today, gather and document requirements, and create clear, maintainable process documentation.
The ideal candidate is a naturally curious problem solver with strong stakeholder engagement skills, experience working within the mortgage industry, and hands-on experience with a Loan Origination System (LOS). This individual will help create a single source of truth for processes, procedures, training materials, and reporting while identifying opportunities for efficiency and improvement.
Responsibilities
  • Partner with business stakeholders to document end-to-end business processes, workflows, system interactions, handoffs, exceptions, and decision points.
  • Facilitate interviews, workshops, and working sessions with subject matter experts to gather and validate business and functional requirements.
  • Translate business needs into clear requirements and documentation for operations, technology, and development teams.
  • Develop and organize a centralized Process & Procedure repository, including documentation standards, templates, naming conventions, and version control practices.
  • Create and maintain SOPs, process maps, job aids, reference materials, and training documentation.
  • Analyze existing processes to identify gaps, redundancies, inconsistencies, and process improvement opportunities.
  • Validate documented processes against LOS functionality and related systems to ensure accuracy.
  • Develop process-flow diagrams and visual documentation using Visio or similar tools.
  • Coordinate and/or execute testing activities for system enhancements and process changes.
  • Support ad hoc and recurring reporting related to process performance, documentation status, and operational metrics.
  • Maintain documentation as business processes, systems, and configurations evolve.
  • Escalate project risks, issues, and roadblocks to the Product Owner or Project Manager while maintaining accurate project tracking.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Technical Writer, or similar role within financial services or a regulated business environment.
  • Mortgage industry experience required.
  • Hands-on experience working with a Loan Origination System (LOS).
  • Proven experience creating process documentation, SOPs, procedure libraries, and knowledge repositories.
  • Strong requirements elicitation, stakeholder interview, and facilitation skills.
  • Experience gathering and documenting requirements in Agile and/or Waterfall environments.
  • Excellent technical writing skills with the ability to simplify complex processes for multiple audiences.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience within the Wholesale/Broker mortgage channel and Non-QM lending.
  • Familiarity with Vesta or another mortgage LOS platform.
  • Experience building, maintaining, or analyzing operational reports and dashboards.
  • Experience with Visio, SharePoint, or other process documentation and collaboration tools.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps and Microsoft Planner.
  • Knowledge of mortgage industry standards and regulations, including MISMO and TRID.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools to improve documentation, process analysis, or knowledge management.
