Position Summary

The Pharmacy Business Analyst supports the financial, operational, and analytical functions of the pharmacy enterprise. This position serves as a key liaison between Pharmacy, Finance, Revenue Cycle, Information Technology, Compliance, Supply Chain, and other stakeholders to support data-driven decision-making, operational improvement, financial stewardship, and strategic initiatives.

The analyst leverages pharmacy, financial, utilization, reimbursement, and claims data to evaluate performance, identify opportunities, monitor key business metrics, and support organizational objectives. This role plays a critical part in enhancing operational efficiency, supporting regulatory compliance, and improving the financial sustainability of pharmacy services across the health system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Business Analytics and Reporting

  • Analyze pharmacy purchasing, utilization, dispensing, inventory, reimbursement, and claims data to evaluate operational and financial performance.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, scorecards, and key performance indicators for pharmacy leadership.
  • Identify trends, variances, cost drivers, and performance improvement opportunities through routine data analysis.
  • Perform ad hoc analyses to support strategic initiatives, operational decision-making, and executive reporting.
  • Utilize reporting and analytics tools such as Excel, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Epic, and other healthcare information systems.

Financial and Operational Support

  • Support pharmacy budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and variance analysis activities.
  • Assist with monitoring drug expense, reimbursement performance, inventory management, and revenue optimization initiatives.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of operational changes, contracting strategies, reimbursement updates, and regulatory developments.
  • Support reconciliation processes related to pharmacy purchasing, inventory, reimbursement, and other business operations.
  • Assist in developing business cases and financial models for new programs, services, and initiatives.

Process Improvement and Project Support

  • Participate in process improvement initiatives designed to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and service quality.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify workflow improvement opportunities and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Support implementation and optimization of pharmacy technology systems, reporting platforms, and operational tools.
  • Assist with project management activities, including data collection, analysis, documentation, and performance monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and business documentation.

Compliance and Regulatory Support

  • Assist in maintaining compliance with applicable healthcare regulations, organizational policies, and pharmacy business practices.
  • Support internal audits, external audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Monitor regulatory and reimbursement changes impacting pharmacy operations and communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Maintain documentation to support operational, financial, and compliance requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a resource to Pharmacy, Finance, Revenue Cycle, Compliance, Supply Chain, Managed Care, and Information Technology teams.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders to improve data accuracy, reporting capabilities, and operational effectiveness.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and performance updates to pharmacy leadership and organizational committees.
  • Support strategic planning efforts through data analysis and business intelligence.
Minimum QualificationsEducation

Bachelor's degree in business administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, Data Analytics, Pharmacy, Accounting, Information Systems, or a related field.

Experience
  • Work generally requires 1 year of experience
  • Preferred three years of experience in pharmacy healthcare finance, business analytics, pharmacy operations, revenue cycle, or healthcare data analysis.
  • Experience working with large datasets and analytical tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an integrated health system, academic medical center, or healthcare delivery organization.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy operations, inventory management, reimbursement methodologies, and healthcare finance.
  • Experience supporting business intelligence, performance improvement, or operational analytics initiatives.
  • Experience with Epic, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, SAP, Oracle, or similar analytics and business platforms.
