New York Bus Sales, the largest authorized Blue Bird School Bus dealership in New York State currently has an immediate opening for a Paint/Prep Technician - School Bus in our current Chittenango, NY location. New York Bus Sales will be relocating to Syracuse, NY by Mid-June 2026. Do you have what it takes to be part of the best school bus team in NY?
New York Bus Sales is a full-service dealership offering sales, service, parts, and graphics. We provide safe, dependable buses for our customers and professional services to meet their needs.
JOB SUMMARY
This position is a Full-time, Monday through Friday, Day-time position. The primary function of the Paint/Prep Technician is to perform some or all of the following duties: prepare, repair or paint vehicles using supplies and equipment such as tape, sander, sandblaster, grinder, wire wheel, fiberglass filler and paint sprayer. Direct reports to the Paint Shop Supervisor.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
โ€ข Take direction from the Supervisor in prepping and painting vehicles.
โ€ข Sand vehicles using sanders and a wire wheel.
โ€ข Fill voids with fiberglass and sand to contour of the vehicle.
โ€ข Remove lettering, chrome or other items in preparation for priming and painting vehicles.
โ€ข Prime and paint vehicles according to industry standards and Supervisor's instructions.
โ€ข Reassemble and re-letter following new paint.
โ€ข Follow all prescribed safety methods to perform work safely.
โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE / QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / ABILITIES
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous paint shop experience a plus.
  • Understand and follow verbal instruction sufficient for following painting instructions a plus.
  • Speech and hearing sufficient for regular daily communication with employees and supervisors.
  • Ability to read and understand text sufficient for comprehending written instructions for mixing paint and sufficient for reading company guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and self-discipline to wear appropriate safety equipment when required.
  • Be safety conscious and demonstrate the ability to follow prescribed safety practices to prevent injuries to self and others.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Manual dexterity sufficient for using shop equipment and hand tools.
Finger dexterity sufficient for manipulating small objects and parts for repairs.
Lift up to 10 lbs. frequently to repair or paint a bus.
Lift up to and over 50 lbs. occasionally with assistance.
Occasionally push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, kneel, and reach sufficiently to access all areas of a bus.
Repetitive motion of the arms and hands.
Frequently stoop, squat and bend for working the low areas of a bus.
Vision sufficient to decipher various colors and contours necessary for matching repair work.
