Bus Paras, or bus paraprofessionals, are educational support staff who assist students with special needs while they are being transported to and from school on a bus. Their primary role is to ensure the safety, well-being, and proper behavior of students during transit. Bus Paras may help students on and off the bus, secure wheelchairs or other mobility devices, and provide behavioral or medical support as needed. They work closely with bus drivers and school staff to create a safe and supportive environment for students with varying needs.

What are the typical responsibilities of a bus para during a school day?

A Bus Para, or Bus Paraprofessional, is primarily responsible for supporting students with special needs during their bus ride to and from school. This includes assisting with loading and unloading, ensuring that students remain seated safely, monitoring behavior, and communicating any concerns to the driver or school staff. Bus Paras often collaborate closely with bus drivers and school personnel to address individual student needs and maintain a safe, supportive environment throughout the journey. Flexibility and strong communication skills are essential, as the needs of students can vary daily.
